Skye's Spirit Widllife Rehabilitation Center is a non profit center dedicated to the care, rehabilitation and release of injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife. We are also dedicated to the education of the public on wildlife and our Earth's Natural Resources. If you find an injured or orphaned animal, using gloves, place it into a cardboard box lined with a towel, close it up and keep it in a d

ark quiet place. Do not offer food or fluids as it could cause more harm than good. Call your closest Licensed wildlife rehabilitation center to schedule a time to drop the animal off for their care. It is illegal in Pennsylvania to care for ANY wildlife without a license. Please do not try to care for the animal yourself.

Good morning ! Volunteer Lori here, I thought I'd check back in since it's been a week since my last post. I talked to Maryjane and she promises that she is resting as much as possible! She did let me know that she received three cards and a total of 14 online messages with help. Personally I'm a little surprised that's all she's received but those that have sent her help are angels for sure ❤️❤️ I'm sure she'll also appreciate all the wonderful posts everyone has made here. I'll put her info one last time in the c0mments if anyone else would like to send her a card and help. Thank you all for caring about Maryjane and all the wildlife she has helped over the past 25 years 💖💖

Good morning !
This is Lori, a volunteer that helps to watch the page for Maryjane. I had asked a few of the regulars on here what they thought about a card campaign to send to her to hopefully raise her spirits and give her a hand up and they all thought it was a good idea. Since she's not watching the page right now I thought this would be a good time to post it! She did tell me that she had 12 people send her some help. With 17.5 k on here I think we could do so much more to thank her for all she's done over these years!! All of the lnfo is in a response bel0w. We all know how the book of faces is about llnks😁😁 Thanks to everyone for helping me with this!

Happy Father's Day!
I want to let everyone know that I'm stopping posting here for a while. I have the auto responder set if people message the page to give them information on how to find other resources for Wildlife Care. I'm still receiving so many messages left on my home answering machine and on the messenger here and it's not helping with stress levels sadly. I even had three people message thinking that it was wrong of me to post ways to help me personally 😥 I guess spending 25 years of your life dedicating it to caring for wildlife without a paycheck isn't enough for some people to think that it would be okay to help me a little. I'm still thankful to the five people out of 17.5k follers who sent me something, I definitely feel loved by them and feel they think what I've done has value over all these years. I'm sorry if I missed some of the animal pictures of ones that have been brought recently, I just can't continue right now 😥 Love you all!

I'm still trying to get through pictures of animals that came in previously. This juvenile cottontail was attacked by The rescuers Kitty, it had spinal trauma and a broken leg. Thankfully with meds, setting the leg and supportive care it's doing really really well now!

Good morning friends ❤️ firstly I'd love to thank everyone for their kind words and messages. I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful following here! I've had a few questions so I thought I would answer them here. 12 years ago this week I had chest tightness and heaviness up into my neck. Of course I put it off for a long time but it got bad enough that I went to the ER in Grove City. I don't have health insurance so it is hard for me to deal with those kind of bills. They thought I was having a heart attack but didn't have all the needed medical attention there so they sent me via ambulance to Butler for a heart catherization. While they didn't find anything to worry about the doctor did look at me and tell me I must reduce stress. Well that's easier said than done around here but I've done my best for the past 12 years. Unfortunately the stresses have been pretty bad this year and the chest tightness and heaviness is back. I guess it's time to rehab the rehabber! Am I going to stop wildlife rehab forever? Oh I sure hope not! Y'all will be the first to know, I promise! I've also had several people ask me to post how you could help me personally. I've never asked for help for myself so it's difficult for me to do but I'll put the info below and if you'd like to then I would be honored and appreciative. I can't begin to tell you all how much you all mean to me for how much you care about wildlife an our environment. You've always been there to support me and all these beautiful animals and I'm forever grateful ❤️
Love and light,
Maryjane

This poor juvenile cottontail was found dragging it's legs. The rescuer got it here quickly. Sadly it was yet another cat attack, punctures, skin tears and spinal trauma. Thankfully there was still feeling in the back legs so the spinal cord was still in tact. I'll put the little video of that below.

This sweet baby cottontail didn't stand a chance against a cat. Sadly there was no hope for this little one with so much damage.😥😥😥 Just looking at the pics brings back tears and heartache from not being able to help except to end it's suffering.

"I am closed to new intakes, please read the previous post for more info"
I'm going to try to work over the next couple days and uploading pictures of animals that have come in that I haven't gotten to yet. This feisty fledgling grackle was found and has a broken leg that is healing really well. If you'd like to help cover expenses it would be appreciated ❤️❤️

Dear friends, I'm sorry again that I haven't been posting but I'm having some health issues. This is kind of a long post so please bear with me. I'm currently closed to New intakes. I need to take a break and get myself healthy, the chest heaviness and tightness that I had quite a few years ago is back. Checking in suffering, injured, and tortured wildlife every single day for over 25 years has taken its toll. I'm tired, I'm burned out, I can't cope with the many humans that feel the need to leave awful messages because I don't take an animal that they have because I'm not licensed for it or if I'm full. It's taking its toll to have to beg every single day just for enough funding to keep open. My side job is no longer able to cover my own bills and that of the rehab and I have to make sure I can cover my own things as well. I've never asked for help for me, just for the animals. I'm finishing up the rehab of animals that I have in care now. I will continue to post the remaining animals that I haven't posted yet. Sadly the realization that I have nothing to fall back on at 60 years old has come to fruition. Thankfully over the past 25 plus years I've been blessed to be able to help thousands of wild animals get back out to the environment for a second chance. At some point I'm hoping to continue but right now I have to focus on me as there won't be the rehab going forward if I'm unwell. Huge thank you to everyone who has stuck with me for all these years and been so amazing at helping these incredible animals. They don't deserve what happens to them. I will put the link below to the Pennsylvania association of Wildlife rehabilitators so you can get help from another Center and also the information for Wildlife In need PA that can help with capture and transport if you're unable to get an animal to a rehab that's farther away. Please understand that they are all volunteer as well and do not always have someone that can help. This is probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Thank you all for understanding and your endless support. It means the world to me and the animals❤️❤️❤️
Love and light,
Maryjane

This nest of cottontails was the result of a dog that killed their mama and then found the nest 😥 sadly one had to be euthanized, one has a broken leg and bruising, another has bruising and the others weren't hurt. If you just open the door to let your dog out please check first especially in the evening at dark, overnight and early morning as that's when cottontail Mama's feed their babies. They will put a nest in or near dogs as the dogs inadvertently are protecting the babies in the daytime as most of the time they don't even know that they are there. Baby cottontails do not have a scent. The babies were probably moving around because they were hungry and that's how the dog spotted them the next day. Please help with expenses, it's getting very hard to keep up with all these babies coming in. 😥

From our friends at Wildbird Recovery please read! Beth is an incredible rehabber of these amazing birds. We need to get the right info out when it comes to all these memes people share!!

We need accurate information being shared about Chimney Swifts (Chaetura pelagica). Unfortunately, this post is NOT ACCURATE and continues to be shared without consulting those who have knowledge of this particular species.

Chimney Swifts CAN take off from the ground. Chimney Swifts that CAN’T TAKE OFF from the ground are sick or injured, or are too young to fend for themselves and are not strong enough to fly. A licensed Wildlife Rehabilitation Center needs immediately involved for cases where a Chimney Swift cannot take off on its own. It’s ALWAYS best to consult with a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

We are being very specific to Chimney Swifts in this post. There are around 100 species of swifts. In PA, we (typically) only encounter one of the species.

If you live in Pennsylvania, here is the resource to find a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitation Center: www.pawr.com

Please kindly note that there might not be a center in your county. There is no federal or state funding for licensed Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers in Pennsylvania. There isn’t the human capacity for licensed Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers to directly respond to wildlife calls. This is why the volunteer network in Pennsylvania - Wildlife in Need (WIN) - is helpful to transport wildlife to a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Please know that the rescuer is then placing the responsibility for WIN to connect with a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitation Center who will admit the patient for care. If you are utilizing WIN in this case, the entire network needs support from the transporters to licensed wildlife rehabilitation centers.

Please also understand (and have patience) that Wildbird Recovery is the primary center in Western Pennsylvania specializing in the care of Chimney Swifts. As Chimney Swift admits increase we may have to temporarily close to other patients.

We appreciate all of our supporters for taking the time to connect and share accurate information among family, friends, and co-workers.
