The end of the school year brings many celebrations of our amazing students and staff. One of the highlights is the Senior Promenade, where graduating students stroll through their elementary and middle schools, getting applause from the students and hugs from their former teachers. We also celebrate our retiring employees, many of whom have dedicated their entire careers to educating and supporting students. As you can see, our School Board members are feeling the summer vibes, too, and wish everyone a relaxing, safe summer! Congratulations to the Class of 2026! 🎓️

The HHS Fine Arts Academy ended their programming with one final Senior Showcase to highlight the creativity and voice of our student artists. It was a fantastic night of performances by HHS seniors, beginning with an original play by our theater department called "One Nation Under Ge Pe Te." As we close the door on this work, we look forward to what the next chapter brings for our HHS and RHS artists in the SPARK Creative Arts Academy.

8th grade students in Family & Consumer Sciences at Skyline Middle School had the opportunity to build their own food trucks from the ground up! Students created a business plan, logo, and receipts, while carefully budgeting the money allotted for food. On presentation days, students prepared their food and served it through their unique serving windows. Students even had the opportunity to purchase food from their classmates using the class money they earned by completing their daily jobs. A special thanks to HEF and Virginia Wealth Advisors of Janney Montgomery Scott LLC for funding this project and making it possible!

Outdoor Learning Day at Keister Elementary! Students visited multiple stations situated throughout the school's various outdoor learning spaces, engaging in activities designed to teach about sustainability. They watched a portable sawmill in action, heard about zero-waste packaging from Route 11 Chips, and learned about wildlife. They also made art from recycled glass and enjoyed some bluegrass, as well as much more! We thank Harrisonburg Public Works and the many community partners, individuals, and businesses who contributed to this learning event. We also greatly appreciate Brooke Imber and the KES staff who made this day happen!

Harrisonburg City Public Schools was honored to host the 2026 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Valley Region Spring Networking Forum on April 30 at Rocktown High School. The forum provided an opportunity for School Board members and educational leaders from throughout the region to connect and collaborate. Dr. Jeffery O. Smith, Virginia Secretary of Education, was the featured speaker. We appreciate the many students who shared their talents, from performances by the RHS orchestra and STEPPAS to student-led tours of the school and a student photographer who covered the event. We also want to thank our Nutrition Department who provided a wonderful meal! (Photography by Addie Campbell)
