The CALL in Boone & Newton Counties

Vision: No waiting children in foster care in Arkansas. The CALL in Boone County started as a God given desire in the hearts of several people.

The common thread in these individuals was their understanding of God’s heart toward orphans (James 1:27) and the knowledge of the desperate needs of these children. They bonded together determined to do something. Once connected with The CALL in Arkansas, they were on their way to making a difference. The CALL in Boone County was launched on January 12th, 2014 after more than a year of planning,

fundraising, and building a team of like-minded Christians. In Boone County, the need is so great that over 50% of the children brought into foster care have to be taken out of our county to find an open foster home. Sometimes, there is no room in any of the surrounding area foster homes and the children are placed in an emergency shelter, group home, or other facility. This means changing schools, long driving time for weekly visits, and leaving friends, churches, and the community they know. The feeling of being uprooted is added to their feelings of fear and confusion. These children need a safe and loving home in our community that is familiar to them. God is giving families in our area an exciting opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus for these children. Some children will only need us temporarily until their family is restored and others will need a forever family through adoption. If just one family from each church in Boone County would open their home, we would have an abundance of homes for our children. Sign up for our next Informational meeting to see how you can help! Foster care is local missions.

Christians are called to care for the fatherless and vulnerable. Today, foster care is one of the ways the Church can live out that calling in a very real and tangible way.

But knowing 𝘩𝘰𝘸 to step into foster care can feel overwhelming. That’s where The CALL comes in.

We're here to equip local churches to support children and families impacted by foster care.

That can look different in every community. It might look like calling families to open their homes, rallying around foster families through Care Teams, creating spaces for prayer and encouragement, or supporting the mission through donations. The CALL walks alongside local churches, helping them engage in foster care ministry in ways that fit their people, resources, and community.

This is what your donations look like!

It may look like a bag of laundry detergent, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, paper plates, and toilet paper.

It may look like a swivel chair or an indoor moon swing.

But to a foster family, it means so much more.

Because of your donations, when a family says yes to a child, we can come alongside them and help meet the needs that are often unexpected and immediate. We can lighten their load, bring a little comfort into a difficult season, and remind them that they are not walking this journey alone.

And for a child who has experienced more change than any child should, something as simple as a chair to spin in or a swing to curl up in can bring a little joy, normalcy, and childhood back into their day.

Your gifts allow us to love on the families we serve in very tangible, personal ways; and to say to every child and every foster family:

“We see you. We care about you. And your community is here for you.”

We know that stepping into foster care seems daunting. There are a lot of questions and "what if's" that can keep us from saying YES. But...what if you didn't need to see the full journey? What if you didn't need to know all the answers and address all the concerns?

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽?

When we read Scripture and see God calling His people to action, He often only gives them the first step. He calls them to obedience without revealing His bigger plan.

Is He calling you to take the first step? Is He calling you to trust Him without knowing how everything will turn out?

We know that He is faithful. We know His grace is sufficient. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵.

Teenagers are growing in independence, but that doesn’t mean they’re outgrowing their need for connection. Having a safe, supportive caregiver still matters deeply. Building a strong relationship doesn’t always require a big conversation. Sometimes, it happens in the little moments, like saying yes to an expressed need or sharing a hobby.

Below are four simple ways to foster that connection! What other ways do you connect with the teens in your life? Add them in the comments!

💙 𝗦𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗲𝘀. When it’s safe and realistic, say yes when your teen asks for something. The more you say yes and meet their needs, the more they learn to trust and accept love.

🎮 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝟭𝟬. Set aside at least 10 minutes each day to do something your teen enjoys, whether that’s playing video games, participating in sports, doing each other’s nails, or simply hanging out. Find ways to enjoy the time and make room for joy and laughter!

🎵 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗯𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀. Invite your teen to teach you about the things they love. Ask them to share their favorite music, games, books, or interests with you.

🫶 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. Pay attention to their body language, tone, and energy. Mirroring their behavior in subtle ways can communicate acceptance and approachability.

What if a child’s challenging behavior is actually a sign that they need to feel safe, known, and loved?

Many children in our communities have experienced trauma that can impact the way they connect with others. As churches welcome children into classrooms, youth groups, and ministries, church staff and volunteers have the opportunity to respond with empathy, patience, and consistency.

Back-to-school season brings new routines, busy evenings, and full calendars for every family. For foster families, those adjustments can also come with additional appointments, transitions, and the needs of children who may be navigating a season of change.

If you know a foster family in your community, a small act of support can make a big difference during this season. We've got a few ideas to get you started!

🚙 Run an errand or two around town
📚 Help with homework
📞 Check in with foster parents
