Veterans Freedom Park The mission of the Veterans Freedom Park is to provide a peaceful, serene settting; in which will provide a place to reflect, remember and honor veterans.

We have an opportunity with the Veterans Freedom Park in Central Michigan, which is unique for the entire State of Michigan; located across from the courthouse in Harrison. This park will honor our nation’s heroes past and present. This is our opportunity to give back to them. The final design is located on our website at www.veteransfreedompark.com . This will be a state of the art park with a welcome center and an education trail that will surround the park with side areas dedicated just for the war eras. This will help educate our students and the public on the sacrifices that our nation’s heroes gave for our freedom. We will have the ability to seat up to 200 people for events with a permanent staging system and a black granite ‘Wall of Tears’ that will list the names of our casualties of war, from Clare, Gladwin, Isabella and Midland Counties. We hold two big fundraisers a year. The first one is the Friese Freedom 5k run/walk held the last Saturday in April in honor of our most recent casualty of the Iraq war- www.friese5k.com; and the second one is a golf outing to be held each June at various golf courses. There is also a brick paver campaign for those engraved bricks that will be installed into our walk way; throughout this park that will be visible all year round.

On Friday, September 11, all veterans get into the Harrison football game for free. We encourage all veterans to be a part of our recognition prior to the game. Any veteran taking part in the recognition will receive a coupon for a free hotdog and drink good at the concession stand that day only. Anyone wishing to take part in the presentation should report to the track in front of the bleachers by 6:40 PM.

WHAT IS A MMHF AMBASSADOR? A Leader in Our Mission.

This role is by invitation and application only, for those who have gone above and beyond.

Ambassadors are the regional leaders of MMHF. We cover 52 counties, divided into Regions 1-4. We are looking for 5 Ambassadors per region to help manage volunteers and events year-round. You work directly with our Board of Directors.

Who Qualifies - Non-Negotiable Requirements:

1. Must have flown on an Honor Flight as a Guardian, General Guardian, or staff
2. Must have shown a strong, proven commitment to our Mission
3. Must have a LOVE for the Veteran and a willingness to recruit them
4. Must be a self-starter willing to promote MMHF
5. Must be willing to take a background check

Duties:

• Attend at least 1 Honor Flight per year
• Attend at least 4 sign-up events per year with other volunteers
• Oversee and support volunteers in your region
• Work directly with Board members on upcoming events
• Keep records of volunteers, events, and any monies collected

We provide training, 2 shirts, 1 hat, and all materials for sign-up events.

The Veterans Freedom Park needs your help! The park is in dire need of revitalization! We're seeking a dedicated partner to help us elevate the beauty and serenity of our park and garden, a sacred space honoring our nation's greatest heroes. We need a skilled company or master gardener to collaborate with us on the following enhancements: 1. Fertilizing trees, shrubs, roses, and lawn, and applying grub control. 2. Pruning trees, shrubs, and boxwood. 3. Controlling weeds on walkways. 4. Cleaning the brick walkway with a leaf blower and occasionally applying polymer sand. Additionally, we may require trimming of arborvitae, and sand distribution.
