Some of our elementary students wanted to show their appreciation to the fire department. They were kind enough to make us some artwork, which our members placed on the Fridge of Fame.

Teachers, if your students want their work to end up on the Fridge of Fame, drop it off at the station or catch us next time we stop in! We appreciate the support from all levels of our community.

Last week Harrison Firefighters assisted our neighbors in Evart with flood operations. Firefighters were able to help remove residents and pets from their flooded homes. In addition to the rescues, our personnel assisted with damage assessment and hazmat mitigation by shutting off compromised propane tanks and securing the ones that were floating away.

This was a well-coordinated effort by the Evart Fire Department and Osceola County Emergency Management. Multiple other agencies and fire departments were working alongside each other to serve those impacted by the flooding. It was an extremely smooth and effective operation.

We would like to thank the Clare County Sheriff's Department for allowing our department to utilize one of their boats built for river operations.

We also want to send our appreciation to our community members. Your continued support allows our firefighters to be trained and prepared for emergencies like these.

Their battle is not over. River levels are receding, but many are still displaced from their homes and will be for some time as damages get repaired. Flood operations will continue for the time being as well. If you wish to send aid to the first responders or those impacted by the flooding, please contact the Evart Area Fire Department. It is a great group over there and our members expressed what a pleasant experience it was working with them on such a large incident.

SUN'S OUT, TRUCKS OUT.

While firefighters complete some spring cleaning, we wanted to take the time to share part of our fleet with our followers and friends.

The Harrison Community Fire Department has 10 apparatus, 8 of which are pictured below. 3 Engines, 3 Tanker/Tenders, and 2 Grass Rigs. Not pictured are the Water Point (mobile hydrant), and the Chief's Truck.

Why so many you may ask? Harrison protects the largest coverage area in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. 14,000 residents across 324 square miles are served out of only 1 station. When multiple calls come in, our firefighters need a truck equipped with the tools they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. That service must go uninterrupted even when firefighters are already out on another call. All 3 Engines have different uses, but all 3 can respond to fires and 2 of them carry the Jaws of Life for vehicle accidents. Thanks to the continued support from our community, we've got you covered!

The Harrison Community Fire Department is hiring!

We are excited to announce that the Cadet Program is active again, so if you are 16 years of age or older, apply today. You will get hands on training and have the opportunity to work alongside Harrison's Firefighters.

Those of you that are 18 years of age or older, have graduated high school, and are looking for something more, should also apply! Become a Probationary Firefighter and start serving your community today.

Both positions are paid-on-call, not full time. This means the department will provide you with firefighting gear and a pager. When the alarm sounds, you can respond to the station, grab your gear, jump in a truck, and go to work. On top of getting to do the best job in the world, we will pay you. All training and time spent on an emergency scene is compensated with an hourly wage.

Questions? Call us at 989-539-3617.

Ready to apply? Follow the link below, fill out the application, and email it to us or come see us Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm.

Our Firefighters ventured out onto Budd Lake Tuesday evening for Ice Water Rescue Training. These scenarios improve our skills and keep us up to date with modern rescue techniques. It also gives us an opportunity to find the suit that leaks! We are beyond thankful to have the support from the community that allows us to repair and replace these items as needed, keeping our members dry during training and emergencies.

Interested in suiting up? We are hiring paid on call Firefighters. Stop by the station and grab an application or fill one out online and email it to our office.
