Use Caution Advisory:

IDOT will be performing construction on the stoplight system at the intersection of Poplar St. and Commercial St. beginning March 30. The first week will be prep work for the actual construction, which should have minimal effect on traffic. Beginning April 6, 2026 eastbound and westbound traffic will be closed off, detours will be set up. Northbound and southbound traffic will continue and is supposed to be designed to free flow with the lights shut completely off. **Stolen Vehicle Arrest**

On Friday, November 28, 2025 at approximately 4:30 pm Harrisburg Officers located a stolen vehicle traveling on Locust St., which had been reported stolen to the Harrisburg Police Department earlier in the day. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle fled. A few blocks away the stolen vehicle was involved in a crash with two unattended vehicles and three suspects fled on foot from the scene. When Officers and Deputies arrived at the crash scene, bystanders pointed them in the direction that the suspects fled. Officers located and detained one adult male and two juvenile females. The adult male was identified as Jerry D. Zappa (33) of Harrisburg. Zappa was arrested and incarcerated at the George F. Henley Detention Center. The two juveniles were released in accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Court Act. Below is body camera footage of Zappa's apprehension from Saline County Sheriff Johnson's body camera.

Zappa was informally charged with the following:
-Unlawful Possession of a Converted Motor Vehicle
-Driving While License Revoked
-Reckless Driving
-Unlawful Restraint
-Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine
-Aggravated Fleeing to Elude a Police Officer (3 counts)
-Endangering the Life or Health of a Child (2 Counts)
-Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident

Zappa is currently a suspect in two other motor vehicle thefts and those investigations continue.

Zappa is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

💙Thank you to the Harrisburg Town and Country Lions Club! 💙

The Harrisburg FOP Lodge 152 is so grateful for their generous donation to this year’s Shop with a Cop!

The Lions Club not only donates financially every year, but they also open up their facility the morning of the event so children and their families can enjoy breakfast together before we head out to shop.

Their continued support and kindness during the holiday season means so much to us and to the families we serve.

Thank you for all you do to make our community a better place!

🎁Still Taking DONATIONS!🚓

👮‍♀️ What Is Shop with a Cop?
Shop with a Cop is a special program that brings holiday joy to children in our community! We partner with the Harrisburg, Eldorado, Carrier Mills, and Galatia School Districts to identify families in need—ensuring every child experiences the magic of the season.

💙 How You Can Help
You can make a difference! Donations can be made by check or money order to Harrisburg FOP Lodge 152 (please note “Shop with a Cop” on your payment).
Cash donations are also accepted at the Harrisburg Police Department.

🎁 The Reality
The number of children we’re able to help depends entirely on the generosity of our community. Last year, your kindness allowed us to provide gifts for over 200 children—let’s see if we can top that this year!

😃 Shopping Day Fun!
On the big day, the children will enjoy breakfast together before heading to Walmart—where the holiday magic truly begins!

This event shines a light on the heart of Saline County—a community full of compassion, generosity, and togetherness. None of this would be possible without your support.

Thank you in advance for helping us make this holiday season unforgettable!
