Meet Brandan Shur, one of our speakers at TVA’s 2026 Annual Meeting!
Brandan is a Ph.D. student researcher in horticulture at Virginia Tech focused on Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) systems, with an emphasis on substrates and rootzone health and disease management in modern production environments. His training includes work in a horticultural substrates research program, and his current work centers on translating rootzone principles into grower-relevant practices for greenhouse and indoor systems.
His session, “Rootzone Performance in Container Horticulture: What Growers Need from Substrate Components,” will provide a horticulture and end-use perspective on what growers and CEA operators need from substrate components, including air-water balance, rewetting, stability/settling, buffering capacity, cleanliness, and, most importantly, consistency.
Plan to join us May 6 – 7, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina, for TVA’s Annual Meeting! Click here to learn more and register: https://vermiculite.org/events/
