☢️ Radiological Emergency Preparedness Training

This morning, the Dauphin County Hazardous Materials Response Team (DCHMRT), along with members of the Dauphin County Decontamination Strike Teams, conducted specialized training at the HACC Evans Gym.

Today’s training focused on Emergency Worker Monitoring and Decontamination for a Radiological Event and served as Part III of a three-part training series for our Decontamination Strike Teams.

Approximately 20 team members and personnel from our participating decontamination companies began with a walkthrough of the facility before breaking into groups for a round-robin rotation covering:

🔹 Vehicle & Equipment Monitoring
🔹 Reception & Portal Monitoring
🔹 Personnel Monitoring & Decontamination

Training like this provides an important opportunity for our teams to work together, strengthen coordination, and build the capabilities needed to support Crane Clean Energy Center (CCEC) emergency preparedness.

A special thank you to Harrisburg Area Community College for hosting us and to all of our Decontamination Strike Team members and personnel who participated and continue to dedicate their time to emergency preparedness across Dauphin County.

Swatara Fire-Rescue stayed busy throughout Labor Day weekend!

On Saturday, crews spent the afternoon and evening at Ivy Ridge Park supporting the Swatara Township Labor Day Celebration. The evening concluded with a wonderful fireworks display launched from Bishop Park. 🎆

On Sunday, crews headed to Paxtang Borough, where they enjoyed lunch while supporting Paxtang’s annual Labor Day event.

In addition to covering these community events, Swatara Fire-Rescue responded to 28 calls for service over the holiday weekend, while maintaining staffing and emergency response coverage throughout the Township.

A special thank you to Rescue Fire Company, Linglestown Fire Company, Highspire Fire Department, and LifeTeam EMS for their assistance on Saturday. We greatly appreciate our mutual-aid partners who helped us provide coverage for the event while remaining ready to respond to emergencies throughout the community.

The Swatara Township Landfill, located at 780 Kelker Street, is currently experiencing a fire involving a mulch pile.

The fire is under control, and there is no immediate threat to the surrounding area. Residents may notice smoke and an odor in the area as the material continues to smolder.

Swatara Township Highway Department and Swatara Fire-Rescue crews are on scene and will continue to monitor the situation.

We appreciate the public’s patience and ask residents to use caution around the area while crews continue their work.

We have an important update for this year’s **Swatara Township Labor Day Celebration!**

📍 **NEW LOCATION: Ivy Ridge Park**
📌 **900 Harvard Court**
🕓 **NEW TIME: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM**

Join us at Ivy Ridge Park for an afternoon and evening of **food trucks, music, inflatables, and family fun!** Parking will be available **on the field at Ivy Ridge Park**.

🎇 **FIREWORKS – 9:15 PM**
The fireworks display will still launch from its **normal location on the south side of Bishop Park**.

Please make note of the **new location and time** for the festivities. The fireworks will remain at their normal location.

We look forward to celebrating Labor Day with you! 🇺🇸🎆

🚒 Swatara Fire-Rescue Welcomes Six New Career Firefighters! 🚒

Last week, Swatara Fire-Rescue welcomed six new part-time career firefighters to our team!

Their onboarding began with a day of classroom instruction covering department policies, operating guidelines, expectations, and day-to-day operations.

🔥 Day 2 took the group to HACC, where they teamed up with Progress Fire Company for hands-on fireground evolutions. Crews worked through scenarios involving first- and second-arriving engine and truck company operations. This gave our newest members the opportunity to train together with another department that we regularly operate along side in realistic situations. Thanks to Progress Fire 32 for sharing the training grounds for the day.

🚗 Day 3 shifted the focus to vehicle rescue, with crews working through multiple scenarios designed to build teamwork and reinforce safe and effective rescue operations.

With the addition of these six firefighters, Swatara Fire-Rescue now has 22 career staff members serving alongside our dedicated volunteer members.

We are excited to welcome our newest firefighters to STFR and look forward to seeing them continue to train, grow, and serve the residents and visitors of Swatara Township.

This morning STFR was dispatched to assist Lower Swatara Fire Department with a house fire. Tower 91(1st truck), Engine 91(4th engine), and Air 91 operated at the scene. Thanks to Cumberland Ladder 36 and York Rescue 15-1 for transfering to Station 91. Our condolences go out to the family of those affected.
