Over the weekend, I was given both the privilege and honor of sharing my personal story during the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Annual Capital Region “Heart Ball.” ICYMI, I recently underwent a full heart transplant procedure in December of 2021.
Those of you who are familiar with me know that I am not really big on sharing my personal business on social media (or at all). However, given the very unique circumstances (I was first diagnosed with chronic heart failure in November of 2021), my age (I will be 40 in July), my previous health history (I was literally slated to enlist in the Army Reserves in January of 2022) and the enormity of the surgical procedure itself (I literally have a whole new heart), I felt compelled to share my personal experience and to encourage others to support the American Heart Association in its longstanding mission of fighting heart disease and stroke.
Shout out to those of you that supported me throughout this whole ordeal (and continue to do so). In addition, shout out to those of you that supported both me and the AHA over the weekend. This will not be the last time that you will hear of me speaking about the important work of the AHA as I plan on being an active and visible ambassador of the organization in the future.
