Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed that day.

We honor those we lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the service members who answered the call in the days, months and years that followed. We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of service that brought our nation together.

That spirit of service continues today.

In our own community, veterans are still facing homelessness, hardship and uncertainty. Through our Veterans Programs, the YWCA Greater Harrisburg works to connect veterans with safe housing, essential resources and the support they need to move forward.

This November, we will once again welcome veterans to our annual Veterans Stand Down—a day dedicated to connecting those who have served our country with resources, care and community.

As we remember those who served and sacrificed, we invite our community to carry that spirit forward. From October 5–9, the YWCA will collect new or gently used men's and women's coats and boots, along with new, unopened hygiene products and non-perishable food products, to distribute to veterans attending Stand Down.

Today, we remember. Today, we honor. And every day, we can continue to serve those who have served us.

Our Fall Fest is just around the corner! Join us Saturday, September 26 from 1-4 p.m. for a family friendly afternoon of games, crafts for kids, networking and of course, great wines and ciders from The Vineyard and Brewery at Hershey. This year's event is taking place at the Vineyard and tickets will include TWO free glasses of wine, beer or cider for those 21 and older. We'll also have a selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets are on sale now - $30 for those 21 and over, and FREE for anyone under 21. This event is hosted by the YWCA's Junior Board, so bring your friends and family and join us as we raise money for the YWCA's Child Development programs. Sponsorships are also available. Our Dress for Success program is looking for donations of new or gently used men's and women's coats, as well as donations of new and unopened men's toiletries. Have something to donate? Drop it off at Dress for Success Mondays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. More details below.

Cooler months are coming, which means we need coats at Dress for Success South Central PA! We are in need of men's and women's coats as well as full-size men's toiletries. Donations can be brought to the rear loading dock of our location at 29 South 10th Street in Harrisburg on Mondays between 9AM and 3PM.

There's still time to join us for our Fall 2026 Volunteer Victim Advocate Training sessions. If you are interested in helping us provide critical support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, register for our training. See below for requirements, October training dates and registration information. We hope you'll join us in making a meaningful difference.

Nearly 20 people every minute experience abuse by an intimate partner. That's more than 10 million people every year.

You can make a meaningful difference.

The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is now accepting registrations for our Fall 2026 Volunteer Victim Advocate Training. Just a few hours of your time each month can provide critical support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Training requirements include:
• PA State Police, Child Abuse, and FBI clearances
• 40 hours of self-paced online coursework
• 40 hours of instructor-led training
• 10 hours of advocate shadowing
• A minimum volunteer commitment of 4 hours per month

Training Schedule
📚 Online coursework: Completed independently in September
📅 Instructor-led sessions: 5–9 p.m. on October 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22, plus 8 a.m.–noon on October 24.

Registration closes August 30, 2026.

Our Purse Auction Pop Up Happy Hour is just around the corner!
