Kiwanis Club of Harrisburg

Kiwanis Club of Harrisburg Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to the children of our communities. We are blessed to have two foundations.

The Club meets the 1st Thursday of each month at noon at Duke's Riverside. Formed in 1918, the Kiwanis Club of Harrisburg has over a century of service to the children of the community and the world. Today, through the generosity of our past members, our club is fortunate to be in an enviable financial position to continue the traditions of service. Our Youth Foundation provides funds to support many programs that serve young people. One very important program is the Susquehanna High School Key Club that provides leadership and service opportunities to teenagers who will one day be our future leaders. Our Scholarship Foundation provides funds for over a dozen $2000 scholarships every year to deserving high school seniors from many of the local schools. The Kiwanis Club of Harrisburg is much more than service. We also enjoy membership camaraderie at our monthly luncheon meetings at Dodge City Steakhouse. During our September lunch meeting, we welcomed Jimmy and Trecia Van Dyck from Mt. Lou San Bible Camp. They just wrapped up a fun summer of week long overnight camps as well as day camps, which are packed with activities like hiking, swimming, and arts & crafts.

We were happy to provide them with a Harrisburg Kiwanis Youth Foundation grant this year, which provided means for two children to attend camp!

To many of us, our pets are our kids! Members generously donated cans of cat and dog food to benefit the Humane Society....

Kevin Thomas, Bobbie Gaiski Van Buskirk, Emily Schriver Trang, and Ruth Shiffler represented the Harrisburg club at the 109th annual PA District Convention in Gettysburg.

Many valuable breakout sessions were presented, covering the importance of literacy, mental health, and safety of the children in our communities.

We enjoyed a relaxing and scenic tour on the Gettysburg Railway, meeting new friends along the way!

We spent a couple of hours making “Smile Kits” at Caitlin's Smiles! These are distributed to over 200 hospitals in the Mid Atlantic region to bring smiles to the faces of young patients. It’s always a pleasure supporting Cheryl and her team!
