In celebration of National Volunteer Week, JFS proudly recognizes and extends its deepest gratitude to the many dedicated volunteers whose compassion and commitment strengthen the organization’s mission every day.

Throughout the year, JFS volunteers play an essential role in supporting individuals and families across the community. From delivering meals and providing administrative support to offering companionship and food pantry support, their efforts help ensure that critical programs remain accessible and impactful.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their generosity of time and spirit allows us to reach more people, respond more effectively to community needs, and uphold our values of service, dignity, and care.

Jewish Family Service invites community members to join in expressing appreciation for these individuals whose dedication continues to make a lasting difference.

Jewish Family Service of Greater Harrisburg, Inc. Reaffirms Stability and Ongoing Commitment to the Community

Jewish Family Service of Greater Harrisburg (JFS) acknowledges the recent announcement by the Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg regarding its current financial challenges. We recognize this news may raise questions within the community and want to provide clear reassurance.

JFS is a separate and independent nonprofit organization, operating as a 501(c)(3) with its own Board of Directors, governance, and financial structure. The Federation’s financial challenges do not impact JFS operations, staffing, or service delivery.

JFS remains fully operational and steadfast in its mission to support individuals and families throughout the Greater Harrisburg community. All programs and services, including counseling, social services, and community assistance—will continue without interruption. JFS will continue to work and collaborate with our Jewish community partners and synagogues.

“In times of change, our focus remains on the people we serve,” said Kevin Keefer, CEO. “We want our clients, partners, and supporters to know that JFS is stable, strong, and here for the community—today, tomorrow, and into the future.”

Now more than ever, connection and community are essential. JFS will continue to offer programs that bring people together, strengthen relationships, and enhance lives. Guided by our mission and the resilience of our community, we are confident in our ability not only to sustain our work, but to grow and adapt to meet evolving needs.

JFS is proud to be a trusted provider of essential services and will continue collaborating with community partners to ensure individuals and families remain supported and connected.

JFS is pleased to share the launch of its new Senior Transportation Service, a program thoughtfully developed to help older adults stay connected, independent, and engaged in daily life.

This new service is the result of years of planning and collaboration, made possible through the generous support of the Jewish Community Foundation and the SAGE Committee. Their partnership has helped bring to life a program rooted in listening to and understanding the needs of local seniors.

The Senior Transportation Service offers reliable rides for everyday needs—whether it’s getting to medical appointments, picking up groceries, attending spiritual services, or spending time with family and friends. Beyond simply providing transportation, the program is designed to help seniors remain active participants in their community and maintain meaningful connections.

JFS is deeply grateful to the Jewish Community Foundation and the SAGE Committee for their support and shared commitment to enhancing the lives of older adults in our community.

For information about the service or to schedule a ride, please call 717-233-1681.
