What does it take to make voting more accessible?

In her latest op-ed for the Times Leader, LWVPA Director of Civic Engagement Brianna Rybka makes the case for expanding secure ballot drop boxes and satellite election offices in Luzerne County, giving voters more convenient ways to participate, especially those who face transportation, work, caregiving, or other barriers.

When we remove unnecessary obstacles to the ballot, we make it easier for eligible voters to participate in our democracy.

What the Aug. 24 Supreme Court ruling means — and doesn't mean — for your ballot:
Nothing changes for voters today.

This ruling was about timing, not power. The Court didn't decide whether the President's executive order is legal; it decided that a lower court blocked it too soon, in a separate case brought by state plaintiffs.

The district court order blocking USPS from moving forward with the Rule in the League's case still stands:
"We're disappointed by this interim ruling by the Supreme Court in the separate but related case brought by certain states. However, the district court's order in our case [LWVMA v. Trump] blocking USPS from proceeding with the Rule remains in place, and we will fight to keep it that way or to secure new relief. It is important to note that today's ruling only addresses the timing of the state plaintiffs' challenge. It does not affect any voters' ability to cast a mail ballot. The Supreme Court did not rule on the merits of the executive order, and made clear: 'If the Postal Service's final rule harms the States, they may challenge that rule.'" — Counsel and Plaintiffs, League of Women Voters of Massachusetts v. Trump

Remember:
🗳️ States — not the President or USPS — run our elections.
📬 Mail voting is still safe and reliable. If you're voting by mail, do it early.
✅ Local election officials are still using their tested, documented processes to count every ballot.
🌻 The League will keep fighting to protect your right to vote.

This is a part-time, time-limited contract position focused on social media calendar coordination, content creation (static assets and reels), and support of rapid response messaging strategies. Role will require travel across Pennsylvania. 🚗
