Harrisburg will be the best small town in North Carolina based on low density housing, excellent economic opportunities, a safe living environment, and efficient and effective municipal services. Amenities such as excellent recreational programs, adequate open space, attractive shopping opportunities, a diversity of restaurants, and a connected system of roadways, sidewalks, greenways, and bicycle lanes will continue to enhance the quality of life of the Town. These services and amenities will be provided while retaining reasonable tax rates and debt levels. This vision for Harrisburg is supported by the following core values:

1. We value our identity as a small town and believe that everything possible should be done to maintain that identity even as our population grows.

2. Having a connected system of open space, bikeways, greenways, sidewalks, and a pleasing variety of recreational opportunities enhance the quality of life of Harrisburg.

3. We believe that a renewed emphasis on economic development, especially the creation of highly skilled and well paying jobs, which will support an attractive balance of commercial and residential components in our tax base, is critical to developing a Town characterized by sustainable growth.

4. Our appeal as a small town is based partly on the natural beauty and history of the area, which requires us to engage our citizens in a continuing program of preserving and enhancing that beauty and of preserving our historical assets.

5. We believe in supporting citizen engagement and involvement in all matters relating to the well-being of our Town, and we believe that your Town government should actively seek ways to encourage open communications with our citizens.

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed that day.

As we mark 25 years, we honor those we lost, the first responders who answered the call, and the courage shown in the days that followed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Did you know the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NC SBI) Southern Piedmont District Office is located right here in Harrisburg? ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿš”

That local connection recently brought the NC SBI K-9 Unit to Harrisburg Fire Department to continue conversations about collaboration on search and rescue efforts. With their highly trained K-9s and incredible sense of smell, these teams can provide an additional resource in certain search and rescue situations. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿš’

Representatives from State Emergency Management and Cabarrus County Emergency Management also joined the conversation to share information, equipment, training, and resources. ๐Ÿค

Swiftwater Rescue is a major focus of the collaboration, along with Harrisburg Fire Departmentโ€™s pursuit of land search and rescue certification. ๐ŸŒŠ

Did you know Harrisburg has an Economic Development team? ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’ผ

Our Economic Development team works behind the scenes to support local businesses, build relationships with business leaders, and help attract new business to Harrisburg.

That work was on display at the 2026 Cabarrus Economic Development Summit, where the Town of Harrisburg Economic Development team joined Mayor Teague, members of Town Council, and Town Management to connect with businesses and economic development leaders from across Cabarrus County. ๐Ÿค

Weโ€™re proud to have a team dedicated to building those relationships and helping Harrisburg continue to grow as a place to live, work, and do business.
