I was honored to read a proclamation from the Governor congratulating the Lower Paxton Historical Commission on a successful restoration of the Newside Cemetery!

They were able to find grave markers going back to the 1740s and worked with the Daughters of the American Revolution to identify the headstones of Revolutionary War veterans.

Thanks to the Nepali Community in Harrisburg who invited me to give keynote remarks at the 3rd annual Newar in the USA celebration!

The Newar are the indigenous people of the Katmandu region in Nepal. We held a moment of silence for those who have perished from the devastating floods in Nepal and celebrated their rich cultural heritage and tradition that was put on full display here in the Harrisburg area.

Twenty-five years ago, our world drastically changed. On September 11, 2001, we tragically lost 2,977 people from terror attacks in New York City, Washington D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The memories of that day remain deeply etched in our hearts. Today is about remembering the brave souls who ran toward danger to help others and the innocent Americans who never made it home. We should reflect on the communities that came together in the days that followed and remember that we're stronger together.

Six members of the Pennsylvania House in September 2001 are still in the legislature. Our incredible broadcast crew put together a video that highlights their memories and the enduring resilience of the American people.

I was honored to join my colleagues for the historic session at Congress Hall in Philadelphia. This ceremonial session celebrated the country’s 250th anniversary and highlighted the progress we’ve made since!

I recently participated in the first Pennsylvania Legislative Exchange, an initiative that gives us legislators the chance to visit districts with constituencies different from our own: https://iop.pitt.edu/pa-legislative-exchange/first-trip-susquehanna-and-wayne-counties-district-111-reps-justin-fleming

My colleague across the aisle, PA State Rep. Jonathan Fritz, who represents parts of Susquehanna and Wayne counties, gave me a premier tour across his district. Traveling with him was a great opportunity to listen, learn and find common ground. While our districts and perspectives may be different, we share the same goal of making Pennsylvania a better place to live, work and raise a family.

In the coming months I will host Rep. Fritz and show him all the incredible and unique spots our district has to offer!

I recently visited The Country Club of Harrisburg along with 7th and 8th grade students from the Nativity School of Harrisburg, hosted by the Beta Pi Boule Harrisburg Chapter.

The students took their swings on the driving ranges and participated in a putting contest.

Most importantly, we spoke to the students about career options post-high school, lessons in leadership from high-achieving Black men, and the values learned through the game of golf!

Happy Labor Day! Unions and their members are the reason why current workers enjoy so many employee benefits. Past generations fought and died for safe workplaces, the 40-hour work week, pensions and more. Take time to thank a union member today. Pennsylvania House Democrats

Happy Labor Day! I’m proud of how hard my House colleagues and I have fought for PA workers on the issues that really matter. Here’s a sample of bills we’ve advanced:

• A higher minimum wage of $15 per hour by 2029.
• Paid family and medical leave for PA workers.
• Unemployment compensation for striking workers in PA.
• OSHA standards for Pennsylvania’s public workers.
• Requirements aimed at preventing workplace violence in the healthcare sector.

I’ve also supported recent state budgets that help eligible working families keep more of what they earn and make significant investments in workforce training, apprenticeships, and career pathways.

I greatly appreciate the contributions that all our workers make to our communities and economy. You deserve respect and recognition for your hard work, and I hope you’re able to take the day to relax and recharge this Labor Day.
