The main recycle center in Midtown has closed temporarily due to a power outage. We are working with the utility to get power back on as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we resolve this issue.

Do you have old oil-based paint, gasoline, household cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, or other hazardous materials sitting in your garage, basement, or shed? Now’s your chance to safely dispose of them for FREE!

📅 Saturday, April 18, 2026
⏰ 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
📍 215 White Pine Road, Harriman, TN 37748

Household Hazardous Waste includes corrosive, flammable, toxic, or reactive materials used in your home, car, truck, lawn, or garden that are unwanted or unusable.

Bring items such as:
✔️ Household cleaners (drain openers, oven cleaners, disinfectants)
✔️ Paint thinners, st*****rs, adhesives
✔️ Lawn & garden chemicals (herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers)
✔️ Automotive products (gasoline, diesel fuel, coolants, fuel additives)
✔️ Aerosols, fluorescent bulbs, mercury thermometers
✔️ Needles/sharps (in puncture-proof containers)

🚫 Items not accepted: explosives, ammunition, radioactive waste (including smoke detectors), empty containers, or waste from non-household sources (businesses, schools, farms, churches, etc. by appointment only).

⚠️ Please note: Alkaline batteries, latex paint, oil, antifreeze, and electronics are not accepted at this event but may be accepted through year-round programs.

11AM UPDATE: Clax Gap has closed due to significant ice throughout the center.

All convenience centers are opening on a regular schedule today, Monday February 2, 2026.

County Offices & Facilities Closed – Monday, February 2, 2026

The Roane County Courthouse and Roane County administrative offices and facilities will be closed to the public on Monday, February 2, 2026.

This closure includes:
• Roane County Courthouse
• Roane County Health Department
• Animal Shelter
• Building & Codes Office
• Roane County Parks
• Veterans Services
• Records & Archives
• Solid Waste & Recycling
• Roane County Ag Extension Office

The Convenience Centers plan to be on a normal schedule as long as current conditions don’t worsen over night. Delayed openings or potential closures of our convenience centers will be determined by 8am on February 2, 2026. That information will be posted here and on the department page: Roane County TN Solid Waste & Recycling.

Convenience Center Closures 1/31/26:
Swan Pond, Clax Gap, Cave Creek, Glen Alice, Post Oak, and Pumphouse are currently open. All other convenience centers are closed and will remain closed today.

All operators at these locations have been instructed to use their discretion to close early if conditions worsen. If any sites do close early, updates will be posted here as soon as we are notified.

UPDATE: Both convenience centers have reopened.

The Gallaher Road and Cave Creek Road convenience centers are temporarily closed due to a frozen system at Cave Creek and max capacity reached at Gallaher Road. This post will be updated when they reopen. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
