I know, I know…we’re all taxed to death in Maine…but please pay your excise tax if you have a Documented Vessel. The money stays local, and supports your community services. If you have any questions or aren’t sure if you owe it, just give us a call at the Town office or stop on by.

Now that the ice is finally moving out, there’s progress at the Potts Town Dock project - this is the temporary ramp to allow heavy equipment to access the site. We will update the community as the work continues!

Just a little heads-up for the upcoming season - make sure your young ones are prepared, and maybe even throw a few extra life jackets on the boat before you launch this year 😊⚓️

Effective January 1, 2026, children 12 years of age or younger, including a boat operator who is 12 years of age or younger, must wear a United States Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD) while on any watercraft that is underway and being used for recreational purposes. Exceptions to this requirement include if the child is below the decks, in an enclosed cabin or if the watercraft has a USCG certificate of inspection.

This change, initiated and passed by the Maine State Legislature, increased the required age from 10 years of age or younger to 12 years of age or younger to improve youth safety on Maine's waters. The updated age requirement now aligns with federal law.

If you are a local fisherman, we want to hear from you…

The Harpswell Fisheries Committee is asking for about 15 minutes of every local lobsterman's time to help it add the areas where they fish to a recently developed map.

Harpswell is a fishing community, and in the last few days we’ve lost two of our own. Please keep their families in your thoughts, and always remember and appreciate the hard work and sacrifice it takes to bring the best seafood in the world to the tables of the rest of the nation. ⚓️💔
