Our prayers and condolences go out to all who knew and worked with Mountain Brook Police Department Chief of Police Johnny Stanley (retired).

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of former Chief of Police Johnny Stanley. Chief Stanley began his distinguished career with the Mountain Brook Police Department in 1976, culminating in his promotion to Chief of Police in 2002. After serving the citizens of Mountain Brook for 35 years, Chief Stanley retired on January 1, 2011. A reception and visitation celebrating the life of Chief Stanley will be held at City Hall on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 6pm to 8pm. All are invited to attend and pay your respects to Chief Stanley’s family. As a demonstration of his selfless dedication to his fellow man, Chief Stanley was an organ donor. The Stanley family encourages everyone to consider giving the gift of life through organ donation. In lieu of flowers, Chief Stanley’s family asks that donations be made to the Mountain Brook First Responders Foundation. Please join us as we offer our heartfelt prayers to Chief Stanley’s family during this difficult time.

Friends, my leadership team and I believe in the power of prayer. Today, especially, I am asking that you join us as we pray for one of our retired Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies who was involved in a terrible, life-altering motor vehicle accident. To respect his privacy and that of his family, we are limited on the details we can share. However, what we can share is that he and his family need our prayers. Please join us as we pray for all involved and for our retired deputy, who has a long road of recovery ahead of him.

Please join us in welcoming Officer Justice Owens as the newest member of the Harpersville Police Department!

Officer Owens holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and brings a strong, well-rounded background to our community. Her professional experience includes service in private security, loss prevention, corrections, and law enforcement.

She joins us after successfully serving on patrol with the Vestavia Hills Police Department and is also a Certified Traffic Homicide Investigator (THI) and Accident Reconstructionist.

Beyond her badge, Officer Owens is deeply passionate about mental health and peer support. She serves as a Region Coordinator for the Alabama Law Enforcement Alliance of Peer Support, volunteering her time to support law enforcement, dispatchers, EMA, and their families.

Her favorite quote says it all:

“Kindness is free! If you’re not spreading kindness, what are you doing?”

We are proud to have you serving the Town of Harpersville, Officer Owens. Please help us give her a warm welcome!

This evening Harpersville Police Officers took a different approach during traffic stops—handing out Christmas candy instead of citations. The smiles, gratitude, and excited kids in the back seats said it all.

Moments like this remind us that community policing is about people, connection, and serving Harpersville with heart. Merry Christmas and stay safe! 🎄⭐️ 🎁
