**A little clarification about political parties and the November ballot:**

I think there is some misinformation circulating about which political parties are recognized in West Virginia, so I wanted to clarify the facts using information directly from the West Virginia Secretary of State.

West Virginia currently has **FIVE recognized political parties**:

🇺🇸 Constitution
🔵 Democratic
🟡 Libertarian
⛰️ Mountain
🔴 Republican

The **Constitution Party of West Virginia is, in fact, a recognized political party**, as is the Libertarian Party. The Green Party is not currently one of West Virginia's recognized political parties.

**“Independent” is not a recognized political party.** An individual can run as a no-party/unaffiliated candidate and appear on the general-election ballot, but that is different from being a recognized political party. The Secretary of State specifically distinguishes between recognized political parties and candidates running with no party organization.

But here is the part I think is most important for voters:

**Once we get to the General Election, your party registration does not determine who you can vote for.**

The West Virginia Secretary of State states plainly that **every registered voter receives the same ballot in the General Election and has the opportunity to vote for candidates from all political parties.**

So whether you are a Republican, Democrat, Constitution voter, Libertarian, Mountain Party voter, Independent, or unaffiliated voter — **November is your opportunity to look at every candidate on the ballot and decide who you believe deserves your vote.**

You don't have to vote a straight party line. You don't have to vote for someone simply because of the letter beside their name. And you don't have to accept the argument that voting for a third-party candidate is automatically “throwing away” your vote or making someone a “spoiler.”

Those are political opinions.

**Your vote belongs to you.**

Look at the candidates. Look at their records, their experience, their positions and their principles. Then make your own decision.

That's what elections are supposed to be about.

WHEN POWER BECOMES MORE IMPORTANT THAN PRINCIPLES AND THE PEOPLE

From closing the primary process, to bending and “massaging” election law to allow primary losers to return as write-in candidates, to efforts to remove candidates from other parties from the ballot—the actions of the traditional political parties in West Virginia are raising some very serious questions.

At what point does political power become more important than the principles or the people politicians claim to represent?

Political parties of yesterday talked about fiscal responsibility, limited government, individual liberty, accountability, and keeping government out of the lives of the people.

Today, far too much of what we are seeing looks very different.

We hear the right words when election season rolls around. We hear promises of smaller government, responsible spending, lower taxes, and putting the people first.

But actions speak louder than campaign rhetoric.

When political insiders attempt to manipulate the rules to protect their candidates, control who gets on the ballot, or limit competition, that isn't limited government. That's political control.

When government continues to grow, spending continues to increase, and taxpayers are expected to simply foot the bill, that's not fiscal conservatism.

And when the political establishment believes it has the authority to decide which choices voters should—or shouldn't—have, that isn't a representative government, that is the government controlling you the individual.

The people—not political parties—own our elections.

Voters deserve choices. Candidates deserve a fair process. Election laws should be applied consistently, not interpreted differently depending on who benefits.

West Virginia doesn't need more political gamesmanship. We need transparency, accountability, fiscal responsibility, constitutional government, and leaders who remember who they work for, “YOU THE VOTER”.

The status quo isn't entitled to our loyalty.

It is also important to remember that voting straight party lines or simply voting “red” Republican or Blue Democrat does not automatically guarantee you are getting the best representative. A party label is not a substitute for character, integrity, qualifications, or a candidate’s actual record. Every candidate should be evaluated on what they stand for and how they have served—or will serve—the people.

Your vote is your voice. Your vote is your choice. Choose wisely.

Don't simply vote the way you always have. Take the time to look at every candidate on your ballot—including candidates from other parties. Read their platforms. Learn what they stand for. Look at their records, their principles, and their vision for West Virginia.

Then make your decision based on who you believe will best represent you “THE VOTER”—not simply on a party label.

As we head toward the General Election on November 3, 2026, we want to remind voters of something important: you do not have to vote for a particular party simply because of how you are registered—or because of how you have voted in the past.

The General Election is your opportunity to choose the candidate you believe will best represent you, your community, your values, and your priorities.

Your voter registration does not dictate how you must vote.

Republicans can vote for Democrats, Democrats can vote for Republicans, and voters can choose candidates from the Constitution Party, Libertarian Party, other recognized political parties, or independent candidates.
