Harmony Community Garden

Harmony Community Garden The Harmony Community Garden consists of (20) wooden raised beds that are 4'x6' and (8) free-standing beds that are 2'x6'. Please reach out to reserve a plot!

Plots are west of the Community Center. Community Garden plots are available to community members for a small fee. Large beds are $15 for the season and the small beds are $10 for the season, with a $5 credit towards the following year's plot upon bed cleanup at the completion of the season for first year community garden members. Plot prices for returning gardeners who maintain their plots throug

hout and clean up at the close of the season, are $10 and $5 respectively. If these prices are prohibitive, please let us know; we can work with you. Tools are available for use and water is nearby in rain barrels. The Harmony Community Garden broke ground in the spring of 2015 as a project of the Harmony Public Library. With grants from Fillmore County Soil & Water Conservation, The Harmony Area Community Foundation and Fillmore County Public Health, we were able to clear away a one acre asphalt playground that was in poor shape. Now 28 raised beds, green space and a small rain garden stand in place of crumbling asphalt. We hope that you will come and grow with us! Please contact the garden coordinator, Amy Bishop at [email protected] with any questions!

Yesterday we dug the last of the parsnips from one of the Community Garden plots. Leaving them in the ground over the winter sweetens them up nicely by spring!

P.S. There are still plots available!

Winter decided to come early this year, so a few things were left in the plots longer than intended. These leeks were dug last week on a frosty afternoon after a couple of 5degree nights. Unfortunately both they, and the ground were frozen, but they'll still be delicious!

It's September and the gardens are doing well; both the plots and the rain garden!
