This mission called Hope for Health began one year after the earthquake and is a cooperative effort between Tree of Life and Mevavih, each bringing their passion, experience and connections together. Our goal is to eradicate malnutrition through the implementation of comprehensive and sustainable health care one village at a time. Micronutrient malnutrition or "Hidden Hunger" affects one third of
the world's population and is a major cause of disease and death, especially in women and children in the developing world. Each day that passes for a child with moderate malnourishment greatly impacts their brain development and growth. Hope for Health equips teams of volunteers and health care workers to bring a package of basic child survival interventions directly to remote villages without access to health care in a cost effective manner. These teams return to targeted villages every six months to re-examine the overall health of the community, de-worm, re-distribute micronutrients, Vitamin A, oral tooth powder, antibiotic/antifungal skin cream and other needed medicines. As we continue to return to villages, not only do the villages receive ongoing education in health care, but key people in these villages are trained to participate in implementing an ongoing health program in their village. This program allows children a chance to live a healthier life and reach their full mental and physical potential. We cannot help all the children in the world, but we are called to start somewhere.. Hope for Health is a group of people that feel called to begin with the children of Haiti..
