Blast Off rocket was an absolute blast! We learned about what is in the solar system, made different rockets, learned about life as an astronaut and made astronaut pudding, we also built rovers.

It was a busy day!

Stop by the Legion Hall and taste some delicious dishes made by 4-H'ers using fresh Iowa grown products.

Best of Iowa is open to all 4-H members (4-12th grade) in Shelby County. Participants may work alone or in teams of up to three. Participants will select a recipe containing Iowa fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins (meat or legumes) and dairy, depending on age division, to prepare in front of the judge and an audience. We held our first summer day camp this week. We had so much fun at Animal Planet learning about how to identify animals, what animals need to survive, and what products we use from animals. We ended the day making ice cream in a bag!

Calling students who just completed 4-6 grade. Join us on Tuesday, June 23 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. for Kids in the Kitchen.

Step into the kitchen and get cooking! In this camp, young chefs learn basic kitchen skills, try out tasty recipes, and explore science in the kitchen through hands-on activities. From mixing and measuring to creating their own delicious foods, campers discover the joy of cooking in a fun, safe, and creative environment.

Cost for the camp is $40. Lunch is provided. Camp will take place at Harlan First Church.

Calling students who just completed grades 4-6! Mark your calendar for Thursday, June 18.

Explore Computer Science is a hands-on 4-H summer day camp for youth in grades 4–6 that introduces coding, problem-solving, and creative technology in fun and engaging ways. Campers will experiment with Ozobots, micro:bits, Makey Makey, and unplugged activities like binary bracelets and “coding” their lunch. Youth will also explore how artificial intelligence works through games and challenges designed just for their age. No previous coding experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to try something new!

Camp is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Shelby County Extension and outreach office. Lunch is provided. Cost for the camp is $40
