Harlan, Ky. — September 7, 2026
On Sunday, September 6, 2026, at approximately 8:35 p.m., Post 10 of the Kentucky State Police was notified of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on U.S. 421 at the intersection of KY 72 in Harlan County.
Troopers Cameron Cornett, Colby Cochran, Malik Simmons, Larico Lee, and Andrew Stephens, along with Accident Reconstructionist Jake Middleton, Sergeant Chase Maynard, the Harlan Fire Department, and Lifeguard EMS responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, troopers determined that a gold Chevrolet Blazer was traveling northbound on U.S. 421 when a pedestrian, identified as Jerry Tolliver (81) of Loyall entered the roadway at an improper time. Tolliver was wearing dark-colored clothing, and the operator of the Blazer was unable to avoid striking him.
Tolliver sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Harlan County Coroner Derek Noe responded to the scene and pronounced Tolliver deceased.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being led by Kentucky State Police Accident Reconstructionist Jake Middleton.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS — VEHICLE VS. PEDESTRIAN CRASH IN HARLAN
HARLAN, Ky. — Kentucky State Police received a call at approximately 8:35 p.m. Sunday regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on U.S. 421 in Harlan, in front of Dairy Queen.
The Harlan County Coroner is en route to the scene.
At this time, northbound lanes of U.S. 421 are closed in the area as KSP investigate.
Kentucky State Police are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Harlan Police Department, Harlan County Sheriff’s Department, Harlan County Coroner and Lifeguard Ambulance Service.
Motorists are urged to use caution and avoid the area if possible while emergency crews remain on scene.
KSP will release additional information as it becomes available.
This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it is confirmed.

At approximately 8:59 Sunday night a fire was reported at 311 South Main Street, Engine 3, Truck 1 responded, Crews was sent to the 4th floor while 3 tenants was being attended to for smoke inhalation by on scene Emergency Medical Responders an Lifegaurd ems , the Sunshine Fire Volunteer Fire Department was also called to the scene to assist with possible evacuations,suppression, Harlan City Police Department also assisted at the scene.
