Kiwanis Club of Harker Heights

Kiwanis Club of Harker Heights Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. No problem is too big or too small. Why?

Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen!

Sensational Saturday at the Nolanville SMART Museum was the perfect way to kick off Summer 2026! ☀️
Families enjoyed a day filled with fun and discovery, including a scavenger hunt, musical instrument exploration, games, virtual reality experiences, crafts, and so much more!
A special thank you to Aronka's 5 Star Creations for donating delicious ice cream to help everyone stay cool, and to Texas A&M University-Central Texas for providing fun activities and tasty toppings for our guests.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a success. We love creating opportunities for learning, exploration, and family fun right here in Nolanville!

Alexander Kim was the HHHS Key Club President. We are really proud of him. Other honored students, Madison Cho was the Key Club Secretary and Israel Valdes-Munoz was the Key Club Vice President.

The City of Harker Heights was proud to sponsor a table at this year's Killeen ISD Starmakers Academic Recognition Banquet, an event dedicated to celebrating academic excellence and the educators who help shape future leaders.
City Manager David Mitchell and his wife were honored to host Harker Heights High School senior Alexander Kim, his parents, and his chosen educator, Suzanne Neff, an AP Physics teacher at Harker Heights High School.
As one of Harker Heights High School's top graduating students, Alexander selected Ms. Neff as the educator who had the greatest impact on his academic journey. In his own words, Ms. Neff taught him "how to think, rather than seeing what to memorize," encouraging him to take what he learned in the classroom and apply it to the practical world. He described her influence as a "paradigm shift" in his life.
The Starmakers Banquet serves as a powerful reminder that behind every successful student is a teacher who inspires, challenges, and believes in them. We congratulate Alexander on his outstanding achievements and thank Ms. Neff for the lasting difference she has made in her students' lives.
Congratulations to all this year's Harker Heights High School Starmakers and the educators they chose to honor. Your hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence make our community proud.

The annual Gen Robert M. Shoemaker Citizenship Award sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Harker Heights concluded their final presentation on Thursday, May 28. The award was created in honor of Gen Robert M. Shoemaker who was the senior member of the club upon him passing. He exemplified a true citizen with his many contributions to the Central Texas area after a highly successful military career obtaining the rank as a four-star general. The award is only available to the seven schools in Harker Heights and two schools in Nolanville. Each school selects a student in the 4th, 7th, and 11th grade that reflects this standard and their name will be placed on a plaque that will be visible during their last year at their respective schools.
In addition, each student is presented a special framed certificate from the Kiwanis Club, and a Citizenship medallion is place by the principal around the student's neck.
The students selected this year are as follows: Daniella Payne-Harker Heights Elementary School, Maurice Brooks-Union Grove Middle School, Amalie Pujois-Nolan Middle School,
Krishna Montoya-Harker Heights High School, Lilliana Friends-Richard Cavazos Elementary School, Cali Woodington-Skipcha Elementary School, Ariah Jacques-Mountain View Elementary School, Nyla Turmon-Eastern Hills Middle School, and Colston McCann-Nolanville Elementary School.

Speaker: Mayor Michael Blomquist &
Asst City Manager Mark Hyde
Topic: City of Harker Heights - The Mayor has several
areas he has focused on. #1 was HB 2894, the Historic
Disabled Veteran Assistance Payments: In a landmark
victory for the community, Mayor Blomquist worked
alongside State Representative Hillary Hickland and
State Senator Pete Flores to pass HB 2894. Signed by
Governor Abbott in 2025, this bill ensures Harker Heights
receives state reimbursement for 100% Disabled
Veterans assistance payments—the first time in city
history such support has been secured. This is a huge
accomplishment. Last year they received half a million
dollars in funding. He also is focused on infrastructure
and fiscal responsibility and securing enough water for
the future. He believes in “Smart Growth” for Harker
Heights. Future projections is 50,000 residents for
Harker Heights. Asst City Mgr Mark Hyde filled us in
ongoing road projects such as Warriors Path widening
from the middle school to FM 2410. A turn lane and traffic
signal is being worked on. Sidewalks on the Indian Trail
Project have been approved by TXDOT for the
intersection underpass at IH 14. Chaparral road in Harker
Heights will be re-aligned and widened and the bridge
improvement will be addressed. Warriors Path from the
middle school to Old Nolanville Rd will be widened also.
Kern Park is being improved and a splash pad is being
added. Possibly Carl Levin will get one also in the future.
