Good morning everyone----I hope everyone is enjoying this great weather of the past couple days and this weekend looks to be the best we have had so far this spring. I wanted to remind everyone that the primary election is 60 days from tomorrow and that time will be here before we realize. Vicki and I have been busy for the past month or so attending the various events here in Breck. Co. and have really enjoyed visiting with everyone. I want to thank everyone for the promise of support and friendship that Vicki and I have received as we travel to the various places here in the County. I am very proud of our County and all the great things we have accomplished in the past 15 plus years and look forward to the next 4 years and what we can do to improve our County too. I again ask for your vote and support during the primary as this office will be decided again in the May primary. I have been a registered, conservative Republican for 40 yrs and have been a good steward of our county funds---I have never been accused of wasting taxpayer funds and never will. As you go to vote, please remember to vote for MAURICE LUCAS FOR BRECK. CO. JUDGE-EXECUTIVE, THE PEOPLE'S CANDIDATE, A PROVEN LEADER. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT !!!!!!!

Hello everyone---hope everyone is having a great week as this weather has been a lot better the last few days. Spring is around a very short corner now!!! It is that time again---campaign season and Vicki and I have been busy the past 2 weekends delivering and putting up signs. We have also been to several events the past week and have really enjoyed talking with lots of our friends about my campaign and other things. I thank you for all the support and kind words you voiced to me and Vicki and for your friendship !! I know you cannot please everyone but I have tried to be friendly, courteous and helpful to all that I have talked with, either in person or on the phone. Vicki and I have always attended various fundraisers and benefits throughout the County and not just during election years. I have had many people ask me--- why do you stress yourself so much by attending all these events?? I feel as the Judge-Executive, we need to support all the functions going on in our County and we have done just that. From my 30 yrs as the owner of Lucas Brothers Hardware, I have gotten to know most of you and have developed friendships that will last forever. When my brother and I started our store, most people were very skeptical about whether we could make a go of it but we both were determined to succeed and we worked hard to make it successful and we did. By hard work and treating people the way we wanted to be treated, our store flourished even after Walmart came to town. For the past 15 yrs, I have applied that same work ethic to my position as Judge-Executive of Breck. Co. and we have been successful also. I am quite proud of where our county was when I came into office and where we are today. Our financial situation is strong, our infrastructure is solid, and we have the best road equipment this county has ever had. I am very proud to say I have not raised taxes in the 15 yrs I have been in office. We all know that the cost of everything has doubled, tripled, or more in the past 15 yrs. My promise is---- I will not raise taxes in the next 4 yrs either. Our taxes are high and we have enough revenue coming in if we watch how we spend those funds. I have always been a Conservative Republican, and I have always been a good steward of our tax dollars and that will not change in the next 4 yrs. The May 19th primary is approaching quickly and I ask as you go to the polls to remember to vote for MAURICE LUCAS FOR JUDGE-EXECUTIVE, THE PEOPLE'S CANDIDATE AND A PROVEN LEADER !!!

Hello everyone----now that the snow and ice have disappeared, I hope warmer weather is here to stay until spring officially arrives. It was a very difficult time for all of us as the ice was frozen so tight it was impossible to remove. Thankfully the warmer temps came and it all melted. I enjoyed participating in the Candidate forum last night at Cloverport. There was a good crowd and lots of questions from the audience for each of the offices. I have received several texts and phone calls saying there was a clear difference between me and Magistrate Beavin as to our plans for the next 4 yrs. He and I were the only 2 Judge-Executive candidates present. I understand that Kevin Drane had a family emergency and I agree that family comes before everything else. Not sure why Stephen Clark was not there but we have another forum on March 31st so he should be there for that. At last nights forum, roads were discussed at length by the Magistrate candidates and also by us. It was stated that the roads were in terrible condition and I do agree. 4 years ago, we had the roads in good shape as we were blacktopping and chip/sealing many roads every year. The current court members decided that we need to contract our roads to a private company and voted to do that over my objection. I knew we would lose all control over when a road could be resurfaced and that is what has happened. The magistrates also wanted to turn in roads in their district which I do agree is better. The last year we did our blacktopping, we did a total of 46 roads. The first year we contracted they only did 10 roads, the second year they did 17 roads and last year they did 20 roads and they left the county the middle of August and never returned the rest of the year. There was 3 1/2 months they could have been working that we got nothing done. This is not acceptable !!! I do understand the private company does work for our County, Meade Co., Hancock Co. and does their County and State roads so they are really stretched thin. As you can see, there are lots of roads that need to be worked on and at the rate they are going, it will be years before some of them get resurfaced. We need to go back to doing our own blacktopping. We had been doing it for 30 plus years. They also voted to sell our paver and roller which will be pennies on the dollar of what we paid for it. The paver was new when we purchased it and only used for 6 seasons and a new paver is over $400,000. There is more but for the sake of time I will end this post and will visit this on a later post. I have always been a Conservative Republican and I cannot stand to see tax dollars wasted. I will be receiving yard signs next week and will be delivering them to those I have on my list and anyone else that wishes one, please let me know and I will get it to you. Remember to vote on May 19th and vote for JUDGE-EXECUTIVE MAURICE LUCAS, A PROVEN LEADER, THE PEOPLE'S CANDIDATE FOR BRECKINRIDGE CO. JUDGE-EXECUTIVE !!!!

Good morning everyone---I have just a short message this morning concerning snow removal in the County. We have been getting a lot of phone calls where the snow plows have left snow blocking individual driveways. The County as well as the State cannot clear the driveways as that will be left up to the homeowner. Neither the County nor the State has the time to remove any snow mounds that are left behind as the plows go thru each road. I am sorry for this inconvenience but there is no other way the guys can remove the snow and ice from the roads.

01/29/2026

Good morning everyone--- I hope everyone has been staying warm and safe during these trying times that we are going thru. It seems the weather forecasters hit the mark this time with their estimates on the snow and ice totals. I guess it could always be worse !!! I wanted to give a brief update on the progress the County has made in trying to get our roads back in condition to safely travel. As you are aware, the snow came with a mixture of sleet and then snow again and then topped off with a coating of ice. This combination has made removal almost impossible as I am sure lots of you have discovered when you tried to shovel out your driveways and sidewalks. I knew we were in trouble when early Sunday morning the road workers started out and reported back to me the terrible road conditions and how hard it was to plow. I also found out myself when I tried cleaning the steps of the courthouse and realized how tight the snow had packed. This has made removal of snow and ice extremely slow and, in some cases, impossible to remove. We can usually plow all our blacktop roads in 1 long day, but we have been working over 3 days and still have a small amount that we have not covered yet. I think you see that the State is having the same problem and applying salt has little effect until the warmer temps arrive. I want to thank everyone for limiting their travel during these past days and I hope the temperature rises soon so we can get back to a normal situation. Our guys have worked long and hard and I want to thank the road crews, both County and State, for their dedication to our area. We have a great crew and they know their job and they do it. They have their assigned snow routes and we do have roads that have a higher priority due to the condition of that road. We have helped with medical situations and other problems that have arisen during these past few days and if anyone has a problem, feel free to call my office at 270 756 2269 and we will be happy to assist. Please stay safe and warm and as I have said before---Spring will be here soon !!!!

Hello everyone----we made it thru Christmas and are headed toward another new year. Can you believe it is already 2026 ??? This past year was a good year but I am expecting 2026 to be an even better one. The weather sure has started off great with the warmest Christmas I can remember for a long, long time. I wanted to express my thanks to all the citizens for putting their trust in me to lead our great county for the past 15 yrs and am looking forward to this election in May and the opportunity to continue working with everyone again. I have been proud of the accomplishments we have made and we have our county in the best condition it has ever been in and our finances are solid. I have had many things happen in the past such as Covid, two flood issues in 2011 and 2025 and other issues but we have endured and things are on an upward trend. As I have said before, I have not raised taxes on the County portion and I will not raise them for the next 4 years either. We can get by with the revenue we are receiving by being watchful of our spending. The election in May will decide a lot of the offices here in Breck. Co. and I ask for your vote again to keep our County secure. I have been a Conservative Republican for the past 40 yrs and I have never been accused of wasting taxpayer funds. I wanted to give a short recap of these past years and also to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR and encourage everyone to stay safe this next coming week. I will be posting a lot more in the months to come but please remember to VOTE for MAURICE LUCAS FOR BRECK. CO. JUDGE-EXECUTIVE, THE PEOPLE'S CANDIDATE----A PROVEN LEADER !!!!

Good morning, everyone---Vicki and I had another busy weekend here in Breck Co Santa and Mrs. Claus were busy on the other side of the world, and they asked Vicki and I to fill in for the event the Animal Friends were having at Tractor Supply on Saturday morning. We were glad to do this as were had helped them out before. We had a great time and lots of beautiful pets were brought in for the pictures with Santa. I have always been active with the Animal Friends group and really enjoy helping them with fundraising events. We then attended the Cloverport parade and had a great time there too. It was a little cold but it is that time of the year so we bundled up and made it thru. The parade was well attended with lots of floats and was one of the largest I can remember. Also, yesterday we attended the Breck Co Homemakers Taste of Christmas at the Extension location. This was really a lot of fun and there was a huge crowd, and the food and desserts were very tasty. We have always enjoyed that event as well. I enjoyed talking with a lot of our citizens at these events and thank each one of you for your support and friendship. Have a wonderful week!

Good morning, everyone---I wanted to post about the past couple of weeks and what I have been doing. This past Saturday, Vicki and I were in the Irvington parade as we have done for the past several years. We had a great time visiting with everyone and the weather was great too. This parade has always been a huge success and this year it was even larger that past years. We have only missed 2 of these parades in the past 15 years as I am an old Irvington boy and I always want to support that area. The weekend before last, I attended 2 fundraisers and really enjoyed that as well. The previous weekend was extremely busy, and we were at 6 different functions. I started out with the Animal Friends bake sale and from there I attended a Veteran service at Irvington which was enjoyable. Vicki and I then visited the Bazaar at St. Romuald, and she found several items that she could not live without !!!! From there we went to 2 different businesses here in Hardinsburg who were having a promotion and Vicki also found several items at each business that she had to have also. I also found some items that I needed too and both businesses were very busy which was a great thing. From there, I attended a fundraiser at Westview for the Chris Wilson family and from there we attended a Fall Festival event at our church. Needless to say, this was an extremely busy weekend. As I have always said, Vicki and I have been very active in our community regardless of it being an election year or not. I feel this is something that the Judge-Executive should do by being involved with the citizens of our county. I will keep you posted as we go thru the winter months, and it will be spring before we know it. Everyone have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving !!!

Hello everyone----this morning I filed my papers to run for re-election to the office of Breckinridge County Judge-Executive. I am very proud of what we have accomplished in the past 15 years and look forward to continuing our success here in the county. When I first took office, we were in a terrible financial position and were essentially broke. I had to move money from one fund to another to even make our payrolls for the various departments. Our road equipment was in terrible shape and we were renting a building for our road department that was costing us a huge amount each year. The Fiscal court offices were in a rented building and our expenses each month were enormous. I started monitoring all expenses and we watched every penny we spent and made sure it was needed or we didn’t purchase it. I am proud to say that our funds started to increase and we were able to get our finances in order in the first couple of years I was in office. Over the past 15 years, we have been able to purchase over 140 new or used pieces of equipment and we have built buildings to house our road department and our Fiscal Court offices are presently located in the old courthouse. I have renovated the old courthouse as well as build other needed offices. I know there has been a lot of concern about the taxes that our citizens are paying each year but I am proud to say that I have not raised the County tax rate in the 15 years I have been in office. We don’t have to have more tax revenue—we need to be good stewards of the revenue we receive and we can keep our county moving forward. I have always had the concerns of the citizens in mind in any decision I made and will continue to do so. Most of you know me from the hardware store, Lucas Brothers Hardware, that I ran for 30 years here in Hardinsburg. I enjoyed meeting each of you as you shopped with us and I always tried to be friendly, courteous, and helpful then and I do that now in my position as Judge-Executive. Vicki and I have been going to most of the benefits, spring and fall festivals, and church functions here in the County for the past 15 years. We did not wait until election year to do that. We enjoy helping the individuals and organizations with their finances and will continue to do so. The May primary is several months away and I will see lots of you on the campaign trail as well as the functions we will be attending but I ask for your vote and support for my re-election. I have had hundreds of you encourage me to run again and I really appreciate your support and also your friendship. I will be posting periodically on Facebook but remember to Vote for MAURICE LUCAS BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY JUDGE-EXECUTIVE A PROVEN LEADER AND THE PEOPLE’S CANDIDATE !!!!!
