The City of Hardeeville is the fastest growing municipality in the State of South Carolina. We operate with pride in a professional manner with the goal of serving our citizens to the best of our ability. We are still a small department with many expectations placed upon us. These expectations can be very challenging at times. Together we are building the future of the fire service in Hardeeville. Many challenges lie ahead, as a team we will accomplish our mission.

This week your Hardeeville Fire Department completed comprehensive training on Elevator Operations. Crews familiarized themselves with multiple properties in the district and learned safety operations of elevator functions and mechanics. Crews demonstrated how to recall, take control, secure power, and manual maneuver elevators, host-way doors, and car doors in the event a resident becomes trapped.

Last week crews trained on treating and removing patients while entrapped in vehicles. After a vehicle collision, victims may become trapped inside the vehicle. It takes time to stabilize the vehicle and operate extrication tools to begin freeing the patient or patients. At HFD, we do not delay patient care. Our crews worked to provide treatment immediately to critical patients while stabilization and extrication equipment was being set up. Utilizing “On Duty Patients” brings another facet of realistic training.

Just a Wednesday morning after rig checks. No, this isn’t today’s “Scheduled Training” on the calendar. This crew could be doing many other things right now but they are training as a team to make their new Probationary Firefighter better. Everyone participates in the skills. This is what leadership, culture, and crew integrity is about. Thank you Engine 81-B for leading from the front to make everyone better.
