🦌 Fawn Season Reminder 🦌

We have recently received several calls regarding what appear to be "abandoned" fawns.

In most cases, the fawn has not been abandoned. Mother deer often leave their fawns alone for extended periods while they feed nearby. This is normal behavior and helps protect the fawn from predators.

If you come across a fawn that appears to be alone, please do not approach it, move it, or attempt to care for it. The mother is likely nearby and will return when it is safe to do so.

For more information, we encourage residents to review guidance from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources:

Michigan DNR – Keep Wildlife Wild https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/managing-resources/wildlife/keep-wild

Thank you for helping keep Michigan's wildlife wild.

Ok, who's seeing them? πŸ‘€

It's fawn season and they may be popping up in strange places (hello grass next to the driveway...). Remember that even if mom isn't visibly nearby, she'll be back. A doe will leave her fawn for hours at a time and return when she thinks it's safe.

A photo or two is fine, but avoid interacting with the fawn. They have very little smell and blend in well, making it difficult for predators to find them. Help keep them safe by giving them space and letting mom do her thing.
