Soldiers, Airmen, and Civilian Employees of the Massachusetts National Guard
I want to thank each and every one of you, and your families, for all that you do every day for the citizens of the Commonwealth, and the citizens of the Nation! It has been a privilege to serve as your State Command Sergeant Major during the last three and half years. As the saying goes about old Soldiers, I will be fading away into retirement. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve managed to spend a little bit of time reflecting on 44 years of service. Our Guard has changed dramatically over the years, from a strategic reserve to an operational force. However, although our Guard has changed, one thing has remained constant throughout all those years. That is the dedication and commitment of our Service Members and our civilian employees. As I transition into retirement, I am grateful for having served with each of you and I am grateful that there are men and women like you who will take up the mantle and continue to serve, protecting democracy, defending the Constitution, and ensuring freedom for all. There is no more honorable or noble profession, than service to the nation!
Thank you again for what you do and thank you for your support while serving as your State Command Sergeant Major! I bid you farewell and wish all of you and your families a happy and safe new year. And best to all of you as you pursue your personal and professional goals!
