You are invited to attend a Zoom presentation of the new Dartmouth Strategic Master Plan. Due to increased Covid restrictions for campus building access the Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley September's Third Tuesday has had to migrate to Zoom, instead of the meeting we were looking forward to at the newly renovated DOC House. The silver lining it that this lets us include alumni from the virtual realm.

Who: Joanna Whitcomb, Director of Campus Planning
Topic: Discussion of the College's new Strategic MasterPlan

Date/time: Tuesday, Sept 21, 5:30pm zoom session starts, talk begins at 5:45pm

Zoom link: https://dartmouth.zoom.us/j/97968619097... (or use meeting ID 979 6861 9097, passcode 564156)

If you can't attend on this short notice, as a PDF on line.
Also, thanks to the many of you who participated in the planning workshops.

SAVE THE DATE!
Thursday June 24th 2021 5:30 PM
GINA BARRECA '79
Save your date (or your spouse, partner, BFF, parent, offspring) from a dull time on Thursday June 24th by tuning in to the DCUV Annual Meeting at 5:30 PM.
The Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley couldn't pull strings to eliminate Covid in time for our traditional spring banquet, but we have arranged for Gina to give us a Zoom talk after our short annual business meeting.
Dr. Regina Barecca will tickle your fancy, wherever you may keep it. She went from Brooklyn to Dartmouth to Britain, then back to the Big Apple. Along the way she became a scholar, a teacher, a writer, a columnist, a mentor, a Ted Talker, and best of all, a compassionate and funny person. She is the author of Babes in Boyland, about attending Dartmouth, and I Was Snow White But I Drifted.
There is no cover charge. No tipping is needed, but Gina will appreciate your laughter. No advanced reading or final exam is required, though you may enjoy checking out Gina's books & bio on her website: https://ginabarreca.com/
BYOB (Bring Your Own Bruschetti, Burgundy, Biscotti, and Buffalo Mozzarella)
Next week look for the DCUV email newsletter, which will include the Zoom link for the event on 6/24.

Gina Barreca has appeared, often as a repeat guest, on 20/20, The Today Show, CNN, the BBC, NPR and, yes, on Oprah to discuss gender, power, politics, and humor.

Looking for those inspired to join in with other Dartmouth community members to further crowdsource singing Lean On Me!
In honor of the passing of Bill Withers, we created an initial edit of this video which you can view here: https://vimeo.com/user81528497/review/403914514/1c54e2f30e
When recording your submissions, please sing and/or play to these tracks:
Track with lyrics (but no singing): https://f.io/xbRKZx1O
Tyné's track with lyrics and her singing: https://f.io/fXLsPLfr
If singing or playing alone, you could listen on headphones/earbuds and record yourself separate from the background track. If singing and/or playing together, feel free to play the music and build on it with your own.
Here's the upload link for the videos: https://dartgo.org/leanonme
We're asking people to upload their submissions on or before Sunday, April 12 (Easter Sunday) with the goal of finishing the video the following week for the Dartmouth YouTube channel. Early submissions are very welcome!

3/11: The Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley has decided to reschedule our March events to be cautious about the health of our members, who are largely over 65.

The 3/14 Film Festival will be rescheduled, but we will issue a list of on-line documentaries connected to Dartmouth that didn't fit in the Festival, including An Unlikely Cathedral, about the Ravine Lodge.

The 3/17 talk by Director of Sustainability Rosi Kerr will be rescheduled, probably for the fall.

The 3/21 volunteer event at LISTEN Thrift Store will be rescheduled.

The 3/22 Ski Day at the Dartmouth SkiWay will be delayed for about 11 months. But that is due to lack of snow.

Decisions are being made on and around campus very quickly about how to keep our community as safe as possible. Dartmouth and the Upper Valley is connected in so many ways to the rest of the world, that we are all going through this together. Stay healthy everyone!

The DCUV Film Festival is still on for this Saturday, 3/14 in Filene. We are ordering the lunches today, so it's too late to sign up for that. But If you want to stop in to watch movies, it's free for members. It's 200 seat theater in a well-cleaned with only 40 people registered. Come out for some entertainment before Covid-19 restricts us all to watching TV at home.

03/07/2020

March 14th Film Festival will include: Schlitz on Mount Washington, Farming in Norwich with Jake Guest and Nora Lake, The fall of 1965, student singers and climbers, and the 1964 canoe trip on the Danube. Go to DCUV.org to sign up. Free to members.

All sorts of engaging films in DCUV's first ever Film Festival.

Our annual seminar is Dartmouth Docs Film Festival on Saturday March 14th 10-3:30.

We have booked Raise the Roof, an award-winning 2015 documentary on the reconstruction of part of a timber-framed Polish Synagogue. The film is dedicated to the late Upper Valley timber-framer Ed Levin '69, who was part of the project, and did all the CAD work. This film will be shown around 1:30, with discussion after. The educators from Handshouse Studio will be in attendance. This film is about education, history, wood, art, community, and even some Klezmer music.

Most of the other films will be documentaries with various Dartmouth connections. But we will have one film that a sure hope is fiction, something you might have seen on your Freshman trips: Schlitz on Washington.

The event includes lunch. It's free for paid DCUV members, $10 for the public for the whole day. There will be an RSVP sign-up posted soon on DCUV.org

Thanks to the alums who supported this effort! Snow & ice sculptures all very fun.
