Charity, Unity, and Leadership are three of the five pillars of the John Gastley Scholarship Foundation. Alexa Young, our 2024 Scholarship Winner, through action, service, and the daily practice of these virtues, builds her character while encouraging others as she grows. Here are photos of Alexa in action, helping coach cheerleading at St. Teresa of Calcutta School.

Charity calls us to give of ourselves in service to God and others. Unity reminds us to seek a purpose greater than ourselves, and Leadership inspires us to step forward in service, encouragement, and example. In mentoring younger students, Alexa is living out these pillars in a meaningful and inspiring way.

The scholarship is available to all Catholic 8th grade students who live within a reasonable commuting distance of Delone Catholic High School.

Applications are available here and through area parishes.

Family financial status is not requested or considered during the application review process. This award is based strictly on the applicant’s academic achievement and, most importantly, the community outreach and service they have already demonstrated at this early age.

We believe these qualities will continue to grow throughout their high school career and help create positive peer leadership among their classmates.

Congratulations, Nick Chirillo!
This special photo captures Nick receiving a congratulatory phone call from Mrs. Gastley, letting him know he had been selected as a John Gastley Scholarship Foundation recipient. This happened last April.

What a wonderful decision by our selection committee. Nick completed a thoughtful selection process, including an interview with members of the committee, and he truly represents the five pillars of the Gastley Foundation: charity, unity, leadership, fraternity, and accountability.

Nick is a great addition to our fraternity of scholarship winners. We are proud of you, Nick, and everyone who supports this foundation is excited to watch you continue to grow as an outstanding leader in our community.

The 2026 scholarship applications are now available and will be posted on our website shortly.

Yours is a place of impact—where your example, your presence, and your willingness to give of your time, talents, and treasures help bring these pillars of Charity, Unity, Leadership, Fraternity, and Accountability—not just in word, but in action.
to life.

Thank You For Investing in a Future That Multiplies

Within the John Gastley Scholarship Foundation, students are being formed through the pillars of Charity, Unity, Leadership, Fraternity, and Accountability—not just in word, but in action.

They grow, they lead, and their influence strengthens families and our entire community.

Here, your role is more than support. Yours is the steady influence. Yours is the connection to others who share this same passion. Yours is the opportunity to live these values in a way that shapes both the students and the community around them.

As these pillars are practiced, they grow. As they grow, they are shared.
And as they are shared, the fellowship deepens—carried forward by those who choose to be part of it.

The result is a community where potential is not only discovered—but multiplied.

This is how a future is shaped—together.
