Lori Childs for State Representative has a plan for ensuring our water is safe and that our towns can better handle drought.

Safe drinking water means more than clean water—it means having enough of it when our communities need it.

In June, we released Lori Childs’ Safe Drinking Water Initiative focused on protecting families from PFAS contamination and helping ensure local ratepayers are not left carrying the full cost of treatment. Since then, residents across Hanson, Hanover, Norwell, and Rockland have made clear that water availability matters just as much as water quality.

For the better part of the past month, we have been digging deeper: researching solutions communities are using across the country, listening to residents, and considering what will work here given our local water challenges, natural resources, groundwater supply, and aging infrastructure.

That work led to an updated plan: Water We Can Trust: The 5th Plymouth Safe Drinking Water Initiative.

The revised plan takes on both challenges: protecting the safety of our drinking water and strengthening the reliability of the local systems we depend on. It calls for:

💧 Making polluters and the state pay more of the cost of PFAS cleanup—not local families.
💧 Funding treatment, leak repair, emergency interconnections, and reliable backup water supplies.
💧 Preparing for drought and protecting the groundwater, rivers, wetlands, and recharge areas that refill our wells.
💧 Helping towns access state grants and technical support without giving up local control.
💧 Keeping water bills affordable and expanding support for private well owners.
💧 Providing clear, public information about water testing, treatment projects, rates, and state funding.

Our district depends on local groundwater. No community should be one contaminated well or one dry summer away from a water emergency.
