of our very own creator of LIGHT, Jacie Dawn featured in the Hanovarian speaking about the Girls Incarcerated Netflix Show, which tells the stories of the students at the Madison Juvenile Correctional Facility (now relocated to Camp Summit in La Porte, IN) where Jacie has not only volunteered, but dedicated her time and service as a counselor too.

While the Netflix series brings awareness to the "systemic change that's needed" as Jacie understands it, it's people like Jacie and those who volunteer with LIGHT that can begin making serious change in communities! Keep up the incredible work Jacie, your incredible passion has been forever instilled in this organization. Continue changing the world one life at a time, Jacie!

Happy Spring Term Hanover!! What a better way to begin it than by discovering why Olivia, a junior Psychology and Spanish major, serves with !

"Last semester, I took a class over the prison industrial complex and it had a profound effect on how I looked at how things are run in this country. When I found out about LIGHT, I was thrilled to be a part of an organization that would give me firsthand experience of this flawed system and a different understanding of how it could be fixed. It has been incredibly inspiring to work with these women on their job skills and to see that everyone makes mistakes, but the key is to work hard and try to be the best version of yourself. I have learned and grown so much over the last semester, and I am so grateful for LIGHT for allowing me these opportunities."

Thank you Olivia for your service!

We hope you are enjoying a wonderful and warm spring break, Hanover!!

Tori recently transferred to Hanover and quickly became involved in the community! We are fortunate to have such a spunky and passionate member serve with us.

Tori serves because, "I am a huge advocate for helping people better themselves through learning life skills. Every time I volunteer with LIGHT I see the change we are making in other people's lives and that's more rewarding than anything. If I could do this everyday of my life I would."

Thank you for being an incredible change agent, Tori!

We look forward to YOU serving with us soon!

In the meantime, enjoy your spring break Hanover!

Happy finals week Hanover!!

We have Abigail Satow, a hard working and outstanding freshman, here to tell us why she volunteers with LIGHT.

“I was interested in Light because I’m really passionate about improving the opportunities available to those in the prison system. I’ve really enjoyed spending time with the women and talking with them about growing their professional skills. I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to be a member of Light.”

Next year YOU can volunteer with us too! Be on the look out for what we are up to May term! :)

Something we are starting is showcasing our volunteers on our page for to learn why they joined LIGHT and what is has given them!

On this we have Jennifer Gilly, a senior Sociology major, who has been involved in LIGHT since her freshman year when it was implemented in the Juvenile Correctional Facility!

Jennifer said: "I volunteer with LIGHT because I think it's important to get involved in the community. I also wanted to learn more about the prison industrial complex and what I could do to help break the cycle of incarceration. I started out mentoring teenagers at the Juvenile facility and have spent this year teaching job-searching skills to adults at the women's facility. From this experience I've gained a better ability to work in diverse environments, and I've lost many of the negative stereotypes about people who are incarcerated."

Join us tonight in Lynn 120B for a study break to learn how YOU can get involved in your community with
