Why do you want to serve on Ashland Town Council?
✔ Darry: I want to be involved in the decision making that directly impacts where I live and the neighborhoods of Ashland.

What’s your favorite thing about living in the “Center of the Universe"?
✔ Darry: Hard to pick a favorite but...I enjoy our small town ambiance the parks annual social events and restaurant varieties.

What past experiences—whether in work, community service, or personal life—do you feel have best prepared you to serve on Town Council if elected?
✔ Darry: I have actually lived in the town of Ashland all my life (except my tour of duty as a United States Marine). I currently serve on the board of the Downtown Ashland Association. I also have an (MBA) as well as a Bachelor's in Political Science from our very own Randolph-Macon College

Ashland’s Strategic Plan emphasizes both growth and preserving small-town charm. How would you balance those two priorities?
✔ Darry: I would welcome healthy growth of the town, by supporting meaningful businesses that will not jeopardize the character and of our town. The Downtown [Ashland] Association is doing a great job advertising our greatness... I believe we are in the wonderful position to survey the tax paying citizens of Ashland as to what they would like to see in the town that will limit their traveling outside the town limits to make retail purchases, employment and evaluate what is good and find ways to build upon it.

What’s one issue you believe doesn’t get enough attention in local government?
✔ Darry: The DC2RVA third rail & the Holland property project.

What’s one recent idea or piece of feedback from a resident that shaped your thinking?
✔ Darry: The need for younger aged viewpoints and ideas to serve on town council. More transparency ( too much community " blindsided" decisions have been made) residents want more input & better notification on decisions that directly impact their neighborhoods before plans are implemented.

What’s one thing you hope to accomplish if elected?
✔ Darry: I will initiate the building/purchase of a Ashland bowling Alley to foster family entertainment which will also generate revenue. I will encourage town council to invest more towards our young people, by the building of or in direct support of a community youth Center, thereby attracting homeownership for families with a desire to raise their children here in the town of Ashland.

The ballot is set for November 4th in the Town of Ashland! Four candidates are running for two open seats on Ashland Town Council this election cycle. Town Council candidates run without party affiliation and there is no primary.
