Our $1000. Youth in Government scholarship was presented to Aleks Harmon last Tuesday, April 12th at the awards ceremony held at the Elsberry High School campus. Alecks will be attending Missouri Valley College majoring in Mass Communications and Broadcast Journalism in the fall.

Aleks' essay explains that within the First Amendment is the freedom of speech and freedom of the press, “Together, freedom of speech and freedom of the press act as safeguards against tyranny. They limit the government's ability to quell opposition or hide the truth.”
We wish Aleks all the best as he pursues his goals and we hope to see him back in our community after finishing his education.

People Not Politicians
Last Fall, we exercised our right to a referendum and collected over 305,000 signatures in under 90 days. Since then, politicians have continued trying to push forward their gerrymandered map even before the people get to vote on it- never before in the history of Missouri referendums has a law gone into effect before voters have had a say at the ballot box.
On May 12, the Missouri Supreme Court will hear a case to decide which rules will be in effect for the 2026 congressional elections. We're coming together and rallying outside the court to make it clear Missourians know we are the ones who get to decide whether this gerrymandered map ever becomes law-not politicians.
