KWRA Transfer Station. What is a Transfer Station?

November 21, 1995 the Hanford Dump reopened as a Transfer Station and Material Recovery Facility. What that meant for Kings County was we now had a facility where we could dump our trash and recyclables and it would be transferred out to the appropriate locations where it would either be recycled and used again or disposed of elsewhere.

The facility accepts refuse, green waste, commingled recyclables and construction and demolition debris from the member cities and the County’s licensed haulers in addition to these same materials from the general public. The fees are contingent upon the price to transfer the materials.

KWRA employs 40 people and is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The facility is closed on Sundays and holidays.
