While you were sweating bullets at work and home. We were out fighting crime.

On August 6, 2026, Investigators with the Kings County Major Crimes Task Force attempted to stop a wanted male subject after observing him driving a car in the area of 11th Avenue and Lacey Boulevard in Hanford.

The male subject was identified as 34-year-old Gilbert Navarro of Corcoran. Navarro resisted Investigators’ efforts to place him into custody.

Navarro was found with a loaded Sig Sauer .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun in his waistband and was subsequently taken into custody.

Further investigation led Investigators to recover a large amount of suspected co***ne and ammunition at Navarro’s residence.

Based on the quantity of narcotics recovered, the presence of sales-related items, and the totality of the investigation, Investigators believe the controlled substances were possessed for the purpose of sales.

Navarro, a convicted felon, was also found to be prohibited from possessing fi****ms and ammunition. He was booked into the Kings County Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of narcotics for sale, possession of a loaded firearm while in possession of controlled substances, possession of controlled substances, and resisting a peace officer.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Kings County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association Awards Scholarships to Local Students

The Kings County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association (KCDSA) is proud to announce the awarding of scholarships to local students during our annual scholarship dinner, which was held last week at the Hanford Fraternal Hall.

The scholarships were made possible through funds raised at our annual Scholarship Golf Tournament, held in March at Kings Country Club. Each year, this event brings together community members, businesses, sponsors, and supporters who share a common goal of helping local students continue their education after high school.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s tournament. Thank you to our sponsors, golfers, volunteers, donors, and supporters for your generosity and commitment to the students of Kings County.

We would also like to recognize the Hanford Fraternal Hall for hosting this year’s scholarship dinner and for being one of our major sponsors of the tournament. Their support played an important role in making this program a success.

The Kings County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association is honored to invest in the future of our community by helping deserving students pursue higher education. We are grateful for the continued support that allows us to provide these opportunities year after year.

KCDSA PRESS RELEASE:

On Friday, May 8, 2026, just one day after praying for law enforcement during the local National Day of Prayer event, Kings County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Andrew Mazza began experiencing serious stroke-like symptoms.

Sergeant Mazza, a dedicated law enforcement professional and PORAC member, was rushed to a hospital in Fresno where doctors conducted numerous tests. After extensive medical evaluation, doctors discovered Andrew has a brain tumor located deep within his brain. Andrew is now facing a surgical brain biopsy to determine whether the tumor is cancerous.

This devastating and unexpected medical emergency has completely changed life for Andrew and his family overnight. Andrew and his wife, Jan, are the proud parents of a four-year-old daughter, and their family is now facing an uncertain and emotional road ahead. Between ongoing medical treatments, hospital stays, travel expenses, and the anticipated loss of income during Andrew’s recovery, the financial burden on the Mazza family is expected to be overwhelming.

Funds raised through this PORAC Fund a Hero campaign will go directly toward helping the Mazza family with:

Medical expenses and treatment costs
Travel and lodging expenses for care in Fresno
Household bills and daily living expenses
Supporting Andrew, Jan, and their young daughter during this difficult time

The need for support is immediate. As Andrew prepares for surgery and further medical treatment, the family is navigating tremendous emotional and financial stress.

Andrew has dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community, and now it is our opportunity to stand beside him and his family during their time of need. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help relieve some of the burden and allow the Mazza family to focus on Andrew’s treatment and recovery.
