Fire crews are actively responding to a fire in Kings County near the county line, west of Interstate 5.

The fire is currently estimated at approximately 500 acres, with the potential to reach 1,000 acres. At this time, there are no structures threatened.

Resources from Kings County, Kern County Fire, and Avenal State Prison are assisting with suppression efforts.

Residents are urged to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to operate safely.

KINGS COUNTY —The Department of Transportation (Caltrans), in cooperation with Granite Construction Company Inc., announces the following schedule update in part of the State Route 41 Reef City Capital Maintenance Project in the Kings County.

The following will occur starting Sunday, March 15th, barring any unforeseen circumstances:

• The contractor will continue paving operations along State Route 41 from the Kings/Kern County Line to Interstate 5.
• State Route 41 will operate under operate under one-way traffic control during work hours.
o Sunday nights from 9:00pm to 5:00am.
o Monday night through Friday morning from 7:00pm to 5am each night.
o No closures will occur Friday or Saturday nights throughout the project.
• Work on this project is projected to be completed by July 2026.

Closures may continue for longer periods of time each day, if necessary, due to delays caused by weather or uncontrollable events that may occur during maintenance. These scheduled closures will occur, weather permitting.

We are seeing an increase in traffic collisions due to heavy fog across the Central Valley. Visibility can drop suddenly and without warning. If travel is not a must, please consider staying off the roads. If you must drive, slow down and use extreme caution. We tell you for your own good.
