About 40 years ago - before Rotary International declared its bold ambition to immunize all the world's children against polio - the disease was responsible for paralysing more than 1000 children across 125 countries every day. 1000 children. 125 countries. EVERY DAY!
Since then, more than 3 billion children have been immunized against polio, and because of that today the wild polio virus is a persistent threat in just two countries - Afghanistan and Pakistan - where 39 children have suffered paralysis due to polio infection so far this year. A lot less than 1000 per day, but still too many!
The finish line is in sight, and you can help Rotary cross it.
