EXTREME HEAT CONTINUES ACROSS CULLMAN COUNTY
The Heat Advisory has been extended through Sunday, and with dangerous heat expected to continue into the middle of next week, we want everyone to take this heat seriously.
Heat can become dangerous quickly, especially for older adults, young children, people who work or exercise outdoors, and those with underlying health conditions.
Please take these precautions:
Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Don't wait until you're thirsty.
Stay indoors or in air conditioning as much as possible during the hottest part of the day.
NEVER leave children, elderly adults, or pets in a parked vehicle.
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
If you must be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
If working outdoors, schedule strenuous work for the cooler parts of the day and take frequent breaks.
Remember your pets — provide plenty of fresh water and make sure they have a cool place to get out of the heat.
Check on family members, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
Know the warning signs of heat illness: heavy sweating, headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, confusion, or fainting. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or has a seizure, call 911 immediately and begin cooling them while help is on the way.
