Tuesday night’s City Council meeting opened with our monthly award presentations. We proudly celebrated our Citizen of the Month, Employee of the Month, and special recognition, all of whom go above and beyond to keep Hanahan an exceptional place.
Turning to administrative and regulatory matters, Council handled several key agenda items. Following public comment and careful deliberation, the FY 2026–27 City Budget officially passed its second and final reading with a 4-2 vote, finalizing municipal operational funding for the upcoming fiscal year. Council also approved a temporary construction easement on City‑owned property along Carolyn Street for the Blackwell’s Corner development. This allows the developer to install sewer infrastructure under plans reviewed by the City and Berkeley County Water and Sewer (BCWS), with BCWS assuming long-term maintenance upon completion.
During citizen comments, a community member referenced an active lawsuit involving the city regarding the advertising of public meetings. While the city cannot comment on active litigation, we remain confident that our public notice protocols meet requirements. We hear our community’s calls for transparency and are striving to help everyone understand how local processes work. For residents interested in how municipal notifications work, you can review the official frameworks outlined in the South Carolina Press Association Local Government Public Notice Guide linked here: https://scpress.org/guide-to-public-notices/local-government/
Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting and engaged in these essential processes for our city. You can view the full recorded meeting broadcast on the City of Hanahan YouTube Channel.
