This evening at approximately 8:40 p.m., Hampton Public Safety Communications received a call for a cooking fire at an apartment complex in the 100 block of East Lakeshore Drive.

Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue (HDFR) units were dispatched and arrived on scene within approximately 5 minutes. The fire was extinguished before HDFR crews arrived at the residence. All units except HDFR's Ladder 9 were canceled.

There were no injuries and no hazards to other residents.

Cooking is a leading cause of reported home fires, home fire injuries, and home fire deaths. From 2020–2024, an estimated forty-eight percent of home structure fires, thirty-five percent of home fire injuries, and sixteen percent of home fire deaths involved kitchen and cooking equipment.

On September 6, 2026, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Hampton Public Safety Communications received a call for a residential structure fire in the 4000 block of Threechopt Road. The caller advised dispatchers that all occupants had exited the structure. Additional calls advised that the structure was fully engulfed. Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue (HDFR) units were dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 3:50 p.m., at which time the call was marked as a working incident.

HDFR crews began an aggressive fire attack and search of the residence. The fire was knocked down at approximately 3:57 p.m. and subsequently marked out at approximately 3:58 p.m.

One patient with minor burns was evaluated and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation with the Fire Marshal’s office.

On September 4, 2026, at approximately 6:04 p.m. Hampton Public Safety Communications received a call for multiple vehicles on fire in the 600 block of Shell Road at an auto repair facility. As additional information was provided to the dispatcher the call was upgraded to a commercial structure fire and a second alarm was called at 6:08 p.m.

Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue (HDFR) units were dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 6:10 p.m. While enroute HDFR’s Engine 9 noted heavy smoke visible from Aberdeen Road.

HDFR crews began an aggressive fire attack and search. The fire was knocked down at approximately 6:32 p.m. And subsequently marked out at approximately 6:46 p.m.

One patient was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. All other occupants had evacuated the business prior to HDFR’s arrival.

Additional resources from Newport News Fire Department and York County Fire Department were provided to support on-scene fire suppression and backfill Hampton stations, ensuring continuous service to the city.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and under investigation with the Fire Marshal’s office.

Nicholle recently joined our company bringing previous EMS experience and certifications with her, allowing her to hit the ground running from day one!

Nicholle has successfully completed the EMT precepting process, earning her release as an EMT AIC, and is already taking the next step by beginning her Advanced EMT (A-EMT) precepting process!

We’re excited to have Nicholle as part of our team and look forward to seeing her continue to grow, serve, and make a difference in our community.

On September 1, 2026, at approximately 10:40 a.m., Hampton Public Safety Communications received a call for a fire on the second floor of a three-story commercial fitness facility.

Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue (HDFR) crews were dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 10:43 a.m. The caller noted that the building was being evacuated.

Upon arrival, light smoke was noted emanating from an electrical wall socket. HDFR personnel utilized a fire extinguisher and a water can to extinguish the hazard. Crews searched the structure and found it had been fully evacuated.

No injuries resulted from the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but it does not appear suspicious in nature.

It’s that time of the year! Backpacks are zipped, lunchboxes are packed, and everyone is posting "first day of school" photos.

We had to get in on the trend, but with a slight upgrade from the usual pencil box. Firefighter/AEMT Jack Bradley is looking sharp and ready to take notes on his very first day of paramedic class!

Behind the oversized backpack and the first-day photo is a whole lot of advanced clinical training, pharmacology, and commitment to taking our pre-hospital care to the next level.
