The library will be closed Friday, June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is a federally recognized holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19th, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to finally enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and free the last African Americans held in slavery, 900 days after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect.

Regular library hours will resume on Saturday, June 20th.

Kids are encouraged to get their hands in the dirt in this weekly gardening program! Throughout the summer we will observse, experiment, and create in the garden. Using a nature journal as the backbone to this program, kids will learn:

- How to plant various kinds of plants, including flowers and vegetables
- How different types of soil impacts growth and organism activity
- How water and sun are essential to growing
- And other art, science, and creative activities!

At the end of the summer, we will celebrate with a garden party, enjoying the harvest of our garden and playing games.

Reenactors will be firing blanks from their muskets tomorrow morning between 11 and 11:30 AM as Hampton Academy students are treated to a 250 Day American Revolution reenactment. If you live around the area, please be aware that you may hear some loud bangs during that time and it is no cause for alarm.

Hampton Academy students will participate in a realistic, hands-on celebration of 250 Day on Wednesday, June 3, and we want to alert the community that things may get a little loud!

Students will be treated to a Revolutionary War reenactment that will include reenactors firing blanks from their muskets sometime between 11 and 11:30 a.m.

We want all of our supportive neighbors to know that there is no cause for alarm.

Students will also get to touch public safety vehicles, try on Colonial clothing and handle artifacts, and play colonial games. The event will culminate with a reading of the Declaration of Independence and the war reenactment.
