The City of Lovejoy Youth Council had the pleasure of getting a visit from the LHS 2026 CTI Summer G.R.O.W. Program this morning! Representatives of the youth council and Elevate Lovejoy Director had the opportunity of informing the students of programs and services in the City of Lovejoy.

The G.R.O.W. Program (Getting Ready for Opportunities in Work) is designed to facilitate students’ transition from high school to the professional world, while equipping them with essential employability skills and fostering self-advocacy within an engaging and enjoyable atmosphere. The program is funded by the state for those students with exceptionalities.

It was a great morning of gardening with some amazing Scholars. They are overjoyed they can plant the food they eat.

Here is your U.S. Civics Cheat Sheet, covering the essential foundational concepts, structural setups, and historical pillars of the United States government.

Foundational Principles
Popular Sovereignty: Government power comes entirely from the consent of the people.
Rule of Law: No single person or leader is above the law, including government officials.
Federalism: Power is strictly shared between the federal government and individual state governments.

Separation of Powers: Government responsibilities are split into three distinct branches to prevent tyranny.
Checks and Bars: Each branch holds explicit power to limit or check the other two branches.

The Three Branches of Government
Legislative Branch: Formed by Congress (Senate and House of Representatives). It writes and passes federal laws.
Executive Branch: Led by the President, Vice President, and Cabinet. It enforces and executes federal laws.
Judicial Branch: Formed by the Supreme Court and federal courts. It interprets laws and reviews their constitutionality.

Structure of Congress (Legislative)
U.S. Senate: Contains exactly 100 members (2 representatives per state). Senators serve 6-year terms.

House of Representatives: Contains exactly 435 voting members. State representation relies entirely on population size. Representatives serve 2-year terms.

Core Historical Documents
Declaration of Independence: Written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776. It declared the colonies free from Great Britain.
U.S. Constitution: Formed in 1787. It serves as the supreme law of the land.
The Bill of Rights: The first 10 amendments to the Constitution. It guarantees key individual civil liberties (like free speech and religion). [1]
