Tiera came to the Foodbank’s Culinary Training Program with a dream of feeding children and seniors in her community.

“I love cooking, connecting with people, feeding people. I understand food has a major purpose,” she said. “I came here for the discipline. Coming here put me in the right position and on the right path to continue to do what I want to do and love to do, to help people. This is the start to a new beginning.”

Here is just a chapter of her story.

Throughout August, Commissioners of the Revenue offices across Virginia came together for the Commissioners & Cans Food and Fund Drive, a friendly competition to collect food and funds for their local food banks.

The Newport News Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office brought some creativity to the competition, with departments decorating their office spaces around their theme, “Making Waves Against Hunger!” Our CEO was invited to be part of their interoffice decorating competition, where he also had the opportunity to talk with staff about the importance of the food drive. The result? More than 7,000 meals to support the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

And the impact goes beyond Newport News. Across our service area, the August food drive efforts from Commissioners of the Revenue offices provided more than 9,500 meals for our neighbors.

Thank you to the Newport News Commissioner of the Revenue, everyone who participated, and all of the Commissioners of the Revenue offices across our service area for helping make waves against hunger!

Today is International Day of Charity, a day to recognize the power of generosity and the difference we can make when we come together to support our neighbors.

This Hunger Action Month, we’ve set an ambitious goal: raising $50,000 to provide immediate hunger relief across the Peninsula.

With the cost of everyday essentials continuing to rise, more of our neighbors are turning to the Foodbank and our partner agencies for support. Your generosity can help ensure nutritious food is available to those who need it most.

🧡 Help us reach our $50,000 goal this .

It's National Food Bank Day, and we’re celebrating the power of working together.

Across Virginia, seven regional food banks come together through the Federation of Virginia Food Banks to strengthen hunger relief across the Commonwealth. Together, we distribute nutritious food, support local communities, advocate for policies that improve food access, and work to build a stronger, healthier Virginia.

Collectively, Virginia’s food banks distribute more than 10 million pounds of food each month to communities across the Commonwealth. That impact is only possible because of the strength of our statewide network and the many people who come together to support our neighbors.

Today, we’re proud to stand alongside our fellow food banks across Virginia and celebrate what we can accomplish when we work together.

Meet our new Board of Directors Chairwoman, Tiffany Boyle!

Tiffany brings a long history of public service and a deep commitment to our community to her new role as Chairwoman of the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank’s Board of Directors. She has served on the Foodbank’s board since 2019, and her connection to our mission began in a very personal way.

Tiffany first learned more about food insecurity in our community through the Food for Kids BackPack Program at her daughter’s school. Seeing firsthand how programs like this support local children opened her eyes to the need right here in our community.

When Tiffany became Newport News Commissioner of the Revenue, she took that passion for service a step further by launching Commissioner in Cans, a food drive initiative that quickly grew beyond our community and spread across Virginia, bringing people together to help fight hunger.

Tiffany knows that creating a stronger community takes all of us. She understands the importance of ensuring everyone has access to the food they need and that everyone deserves a seat at the table.

As a dedicated advocate for our neighbors experiencing food insecurity, we’re excited to have Tiffany’s leadership as Virginia Peninsula Foodbank enters its next chapter. We’re grateful for her continued service and look forward to all we’ll accomplish together.
