In this video from 2024, a team of Langley researchers captured the moment that the eclipse’s shadow cast over a modified drone at 10,000 feet.

Today, NASA Langley’s Scientifically Calibrated In-Flight Imagery (SCIFLI) team is supporting an eclipse study in Iceland. They are using a high-altitude aircraft to capture imagery scientists will use to study phenomena occurring above the Sun’s surface.

Our workforce is what makes NASA’s Langley Research Center so incredible.✨

Tanisha Baines, team lead for the Langley Travel Office, Ben Simmons, Research Aerospace Engineer, and Kyle Hines, Cost Analyst, each received the high honor of the Administrator’s Flight Experience Award for their outstanding contributions to the agency.

This award grants them an opportunity to see Langley from above onboard a NASA aircraft. They each enjoyed a top view of the iconic Langley vacuum spheres, gantry, and our newly opened Flight Dynamics Research Facility. ✈️💙

New NASA wind tunnel alert 🚨✈️🚀

Check out some highlights from the opening of NASA Langley's Flight Dynamics Research Facility!

Using four massive eight-bladed fans powered by 750-horsepower motors, this facility can generate wind speeds two times faster than its predecessors. The research and testing done here will help us design spacecraft and aircraft — and help improve your future flights.

Leaders gathered at Langley today for the wind tunnel's ribbon-cutting ceremony. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/4xe1iKT
