An area of low pressure is expected to pass through the region Monday into Monday night, bringing widespread showers and a few embedded thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding will be possible. A few severe thunderstorms are also possible. (See the attached graphics.)

Here are the key messages:

*An area of low pressure is expected to bring widespread showers and a few thunderstorms to the region Monday into Monday night.

*Rainfall amounts could exceed 1 to 2 inches in spots, which could lead to localized flash flooding, particularly in urban areas if excessive hourly rainfall rates occur.

*Depending on the track of the low pressure system, it is possible that some threat for severe thunderstorms could develop Monday afternoon into Monday evening.
There is substantial uncertainty regarding the exact track of the low, which will have significant implications on the exact hazards the region may experience. Details will continue to come into better focus over the weekend.

*Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon and evening.

*The highest chances for severe storms is between 4-11 pm ahead of a cold front moving through.

*Damaging straight line winds are the biggest threat but an isolated tornado can't be ruled out over southeast PA and adjacent portions of southern NJ as well as Delmarva. Finally, there is the risk for localized flash flooding for the urban corridor.

*Overall confidence is moderate at this time.

“Early evening radar shows a line of thunderstorms just now moving into central Pennsylvania. This is decently behind where it seemed it would have been at this time earlier this afternoon. That leaves a lot of distance for it still to travel before it gets to NJ, and the threat window won't begin for almost another 2.5 hours. This delay will actually reduce our severe weather threat a little bit as there will be less energy for it to worth with. The damaging wind gust threat is now scattered instead of numerous, and top gusts should be under 60 mph“

Storm threat for this evening is 6PM or later.
