September 11: We Remember
Today, the Atlantic City International Airport community gathered to remember the lives lost and the extraordinary courage and sacrifice witnessed on September 11, 2001.
The ceremony, hosted by Airport Director Tim Kroll, was attended by SJTA Executive Director Stephen F. Dougherty and Vice Chair Barbara Holcomb, and Tom Coury, former Federal Security Director and Lt. Colonel of the Pennsylvania State Police on 9/11, along with airport employees, first responders, and members of the community.
The keynote address was delivered by Atlantic City International Airport Fire Chief Timothy Green, who reflected on his experience as a high school student on that morning 25 years ago.
“Twenty-five years has created distance from that morning. For some, the memories have become less vivid. For others, the events of 9/11 exist only in history books, photographs, videos, and the stories told by parents, grandparents, teachers, and first responders.”
Chief Green reminded those gathered of our responsibility to ensure those memories and the lessons of that day are carried forward, particularly for generations who did not experience it themselves.
“It is up to us to tell the stories. It is up to us to share the memories.”
At Atlantic City International Airport, a permanent memorial featuring an artifact of World Trade Center steel stands as a lasting reminder of the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call and the importance of never forgetting.
Today, we remember. We honor. And we carry their stories forward.
