Hammond Rotary

Hammond Rotary The Hammond Rotary Club has been supporting community organizations in Hammond, Louisiana and the surrounding areas since April 1, 1922.

We meet on Wednesday’s at 12:00 noon at Tope La Catering Downtown located in Downtown Hammond. - How It All Started -

Rotary began February 23, 1905 in Chicago. A young attorney, Paul Harris, recognized the need for business and professional men to join together for the purpose of providing volunteer service to their community. Harris invited three friends, a coal dealer, a merchant tailor and a

mining engineer, to meet at his office to explore this idea. They decided to meet weekly and each would invite others to join them. As they met each week they rotated meeting places from one office or place of business, thus the name Rotary. From that meager beginning in Chicago, Rotary has grown to international in scope and is the oldest volunteer service organization in the world. Today there are over 32,000 clubs in 200 countries with more than 1.2 million members. The idea and purpose of Rotary is just as much alive and prevalent today as it was in 1905. This is attested by the fact that an average of 500 new clubs are organized annually and 115 new members are added weekly. The Hammond club was chartered April 1, 1922.

🌟 September Member Spotlight: Michelle Sutton 🌟

This month, we’re proud to spotlight Michelle Sutton, whose Rotary story is a wonderful example of how service can inspire a lifetime of leadership.

Michelle’s connection to Rotary began as a young person through Interact, where she became the first female officer of her Interact Club. After a career dedicated to education, Michelle recently retired—but her passion for developing and encouraging young leaders continues.

Today, she has brought that journey full circle as the 2026–2027 Interact Chair for the Rotary Club of Hammond, helping inspire the next generation to discover the same values of leadership, service and community involvement that helped shape her own path.

We’re grateful to have Michelle sharing her experience, heart for service and commitment to young people with our club and our community. 💙💛

Please join us in celebrating Michelle Sutton, our September Member Spotlight!
