๐ Hamlin Police Department โ Protecting Your Property from Theft
The Hamlin Police Department wants to remind our community that a few simple steps can go a long way in preventing theft. Most property crimes are crimes of opportunity, and taking basic precautions can help protect your home, vehicle, and belongings.
Here are a few ways you can reduce the risk:
๐ Lock your vehicles โ Even if parked in your driveway. Many thefts occur because vehicles are left unlocked.
๐ Secure your home โ Lock doors and windows, even when you are home or stepping away briefly.
๐ก Use outdoor lighting โ Motion lights around entrances, garages, and dark areas can deter criminals.
๐ฆ Bring packages inside promptly โ If you are expecting deliveries, retrieve them as soon as possible or ask a neighbor to help.
๐ง Lock sheds and garages โ Tools, lawn equipment, and bicycles are common targets.
๐ Be aware of suspicious activity โ If you see something that doesnโt seem right, report it.
๐ค Look out for your neighbors โ Strong communities help prevent crime. If you are traveling, consider asking a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your property.
Make sure you have serial numbers of your valuable possessions.
If you notice suspicious behavior or believe a crime may be occurring, please contact the Hamlin Police Department immediately at 5763633. Reminder we are dispatched by the Jones County Sheriffs Office non emergency number is 823-4604. Always in an emergency call 911.
