HAMILTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
PRESS RELEASE

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, at approximately 2 pm, Hamilton County Deputies were dispatched to an unresponsive male.

When deputies arrived in the 3100 block of FM 1241, a male victim was located in the residence with a possible gunshot wound.

Due to the early stages of the investigation, there is not much information that can be shared. However, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is confident that there is no threat to the public and that this is an isolated event.

This offense is being investigated by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office with the assistance of the Texas Rangers.

There is no other information at this time, and the public will be notified as information becomes available for release.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office would like to alert citizens about a scam that is currently being sent to residents via text message.

These messages are designed to look like they came from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and may claim that you have an outstanding warrant or request payment or personal information.

⚠️ Please be aware:

Texas DPS will NOT text or email you about outstanding warrants.

These messages are fraudulent and intended to scare people into sending money or personal information.

If you receive one of these messages:

✔️ Do not click any links
✔️ Do not send money or personal information

If you have questions about the legitimacy of a text message, phone call, or email, please contact the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

As of March 5,2026, the non-emergency phone lines at Hamilton County Communications are currently down, as well as the phones at the Sheriff’s Office

🚨 ASSAULT INVESTIGATION – SOUTH RICE STREET 🚨

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, at approximately 7:59 PM, deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Rice Street in Hamilton in reference to a reported assault.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a female victim who reported she had been physically assaulted by an unknown male subject.

The suspect is described as a heavier-set male, approximately 5’9” to 6’0” tall, wearing a mask, gloves, and a jacket. The victim also described a noticeable “musky” odor.

This case remains active and under investigation.

Temperatures are not expected to get above freezing until Monday afternoon. Roadways may remain slick and hazardous, especially during the overnight and morning hours. If you do not need to be on the roads tomorrow, it is advised that you stay home and stay safe. Please check on your neighbors, especially the elderly or those without adequate heat.

The City of Hamilton’s City Manager is also asking citizens on city water to conserve water. The city is currently having difficulty getting water from the Upper Leon.
